Primary Job Function Participation in a highly integrated, multi-functional team (including geoscience, engineering, land and regulatory),  tasked with  opportunity generation, as well as drilling and producing ExxonMobil/XTO Energy's interests in the US Lower 48 states, Canada and Argentina. XTO stewards the following regions or basins: Permian (Delaware, and Midland Basins and Central Basin Platform), Fort Worth Basin (Barnett), South Texas (Eagle Ford), Arkoma/Mid Continent, East Texas, Williston (Bakken), and Appalachia. 
 
Critical skills include subsurface mapping, data organization, interpretation and integration, presentation, communication, collaboration with other disciplines, adaptability, multitasking, decision making and software skills.
 
Job Role/Responsibilities
Opportunity Generation, maturation and stewarding of well proposals; well planning and operations support for drilling horizontal or vertical development wells in conventional and unconventional reservoirs.  The position involves working closely with Drilling, Land, Government Affairs, Operations, Reservoir Engineering, and Legal to achieve these goals.
Integration of geologic, geophysical, and production data while mapping, planning and executing drilling and development plans.
Landing and geosteering horizontal wells, keeping the wellbore within the target formation while drilling. 
Collection and interpretation of company well performance data and industry activity.  Using and organizing said data to continually assess trends within plays.  Integrating subsequent interpretations back into field development plans to improve profitability.
Identifying and capturing new acreage/opportunities via primary geologic work as well as leveraging competitor analysis. 
Assisting in technical assessments of acquisition and divestment evaluations.
 

Skill Requirements
BA/BS, MA/MS and/or PhD in Geology or Geophysics (or related fields).
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in applied unconventional environments.
Operations geology experience, preferably with horizontal drilling.
Competency across generalist geological skills, e.g. subsurface mapping, log analysis, seismic interpretation, stratigraphy, structure etc.
Ability to work well and communicate strongly within a multi-functional and integrated team.
Ability to multi-task and handle high workloads, for example simultaneously steering multiple wells while planning others.
Strong analytical background and skills including the ability to understand stratigraphy and well plans in 3 dimensions.
Demonstrated leadership, adaptability, and ability to work in a multi-functional team.
Commitment to high safety and ethical standards.

 
Preferred Skills
Experience in production operations is desirable.
Significant experience and advanced expertise in unconventional environments, carbonate and complex mineralogy environments, and/or geosteering applications.
