The Wellsite Geologist will represent the Company on the rig for all geological and subsurface data acquisition and operations matters in accordance with the Geology Programme. You will have responsibility for ensuring compliance of mandatory Health and Safety requirements, including attendance to all rig based safety drills and meetings, and for maintaining good two-way communications with rig based Company personnel, Company contracted personnel and our shore based Company Drilling Operation Team. In addition you will complete all written and verbal reports as required and any other reasonable request from the Company personnel or Company contracted personnel to assist with safe drilling operations and to achieve the well objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
Review and understand the Drilling Programme and Geology Programme prior to drilling commencement.
Technical and quality assurance for all work and subsurface data provided by relevant contracted services for drilling and subsurface data acquisition.
Liaising with drilling and data acquisition personnel to ensure optimised tool utilisation to fulfil the well objectives. If necessary, recommend additions and/or modifications of the data acquisition programme, to the rig based Drilling Supervisor and shore based Operations Geologist and Project Geologist.
Inform the Drilling Supervisor and Drilling Operation Team of any new subsurface risk or findings during drilling operations that may affect well progress or well integrity.
Ensure all personnel for Mud logging, Wireline logging, M-LWD logging perform efficiently and their equipment is functional, calibrated and fit for purpose to fulfil the well data acquisition objectives.
Describe cuttings samples, identify major stratigraphic lithology boundaries using all available correlation information, report hydrocarbon shows and pore pressure trends, complete the Company Wellsite Lithology log while drilling and provide a draft Composite Lithology log using data from final TD logs. The log drawing software provided is WellCad.
Daily completion and correspondence of Company geological and operations reports which summarise the last 24 hours drilling activities to include but not limited to Company Wellsite Lithology log, relevant cuttings descriptions, gas or oil shows, drilling fluid data, provisional formation tops, observed pore pressure, with comparison of prognosed formation tops and pressure explaining significant variance. Daily transmission of subsurface data provided by contractors as detailed in the Geology Programme.
Close supervision of the Mudlogging service to ensure all data required is delivered in a timely manner, report any inconsistencies in data acquisition and equipment failures for resolution.
Supervision of M-LWD and Wireline logging data acquisition, reporting operations progress, problems and solutions and requesting additional or changes to data acquisition runs to ensure objectives are achieved if real time data is considered unacceptable.
