The ensemble-based history matching methods have been shown to be effective in providing multiple reservoir simulation models that honor historical data.
The most critical step for a successful history matching study is the creation of the initial ensemble. The initial ensemble typically contains realizations of the geological model (for example, facies type, porosity and permeability at every model cell) in addition to commonly used dynamic parameters (for example, relative permeability end points). The uncertainty representation of the initial ensemble needs to be sufficiently rich in order to achieve a satisfactory match to historical data and reasonable prediction for future reservoir performance.
You will join a team of TOTAL Exploration & Production UK located in Aberdeen.
Together we plan to:
1) Identify indicators for sufficient/insufficient uncertainty modeling. These indicators will be based on dynamic reservoir behavior instead of static volumetric that is typically used.
2) Develop flow diagnostic tools that can identify key parameters that have highest impact on flow behavior. These key parameters can be a certain characteristic of the heterogeneity in a region of the reservoir.
3) Establish fast approaches for sensitivity study utilizing available proxy models.
The outcome of the work will be useful for a general subsurface uncertainty study.
The selected candidate will receive a VIE allowance according to the Business France rates and the subsidiary will provide a furnished accommodation.

Desired qualifications : PHD Degree PREFERRED, or MSc equivalent with STRONG motivation in RESEARCH
Technical skills : Knowledge in statistics, engineering, applied mathematics and data science.
Computing skills : Programming experience required. One or more of the following : Matlab, Python, Java, C++.
Languages : Fluent English, intermediary French.
