Modeling Engineer – Applied Sciences, Production Enhancement
 
The Production Enhancement division encompasses all of Halliburton’s Hydraulic Fracturing and Wellbore Stimulation efforts. Halliburton pioneered hydraulic fracturing technology and revolutionized the oil and gas industry when we executed the first hydraulic fracturing procedure in 1947. Since then, we have remained the industry leader in providing fracturing and stimulation services all over the world. The Applied Sciences R&D team is where it all starts. From technology and process improvement to new product development, this team is the heart of Halliburton’s largest Product Service Line and the very foundation of Halliburton’s position as the industry leader and principal innovator in well stimulation products and services.
As a modeling engineer on the Applied Sciences R&D team, you will be working with a diverse global team of engineers, data scientists, chemists, and business leaders addressing some of the most challenging problems in Oil and Gas. We are looking for creative, dynamic, passionate, and driven individuals who have the ability to effectively communicate and influence the business through model-driven decisions and investments.
 
As a modeling engineer, you will:

Anticipate and solve engineering problems during the development and application of new and improved products and processes
Create cutting-edge, large-scale simulation software as part of a team in support of hydraulic fracturing products and processes
Create numerical models which incorporate sound engineering principles and laboratory experimental data primarily in the area of fluid dynamics, particle transport, rock mechanics and reservoir geomechanics
Perform numerical modeling, data analysis, correlation and model development utilizing existing commercial software and assist in the development of new modeling software
Assist in the development and testing of software products
Provide training and field support for existing software products. Resolve technical/operational questions with representatives of other organizations

 
Required Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in scientific software development or comparable role
Demonstrated ability to incorporate new features and capabilities on top of large code base of scientific application software
Experience with Computational fluid dynamics, Computational solid/rock mechanics, and Numerical methods
Proficiency in computer programming languages such as C++, FORTRAN, C, and Pascal

Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server, GitHub or similar; Experience with debugging and profiling; Knowledge of good software development practices for developing and maintaining large code bases

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required with the ability to present complex and sensitive issues to all levels of senior management
Skills are typically acquired through completion of an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Science, or similar discipline and a minimum of 7 years related experience. Incumbents at this level will normally be certified as a Licensed/Chartered Professional Engineer

 
Desired Qualifications:

Minimum of a Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or related discipline
Experience with parallel programming (distributed and shared memory, GPU)
Experience with direct and iterative solvers
Strong scripting ability in Python, Matlab or similar
Previous experience in oil and gas industry

Candidates having qualifications that exceed the minimum job requirements will receive consideration for a higher level role given (1) their experience, (2) additional job requirements, and/or (3) business needs
