Based in Total’s Research & Technology Center USA (Houston), this position is initially fully dedicated to the Total R&D; EP Unconventional Program.

The incumbent will be responsible for advising the two Project Managers and the Unconventional R&D; Program Manager on all matters related to the geology of unconventional plays. As a result, he will strongly influence the content of the research program.

As Senior Geological Advisor, the incumbent will have to:
Participate in the identification of the main research areas, technologies and methodologies to be studied.
Propose work programs and/or evaluate those proposed by third parties.
Participate in joint research projects and lead projects operated by Total, ensuring the supply and quality of deliverables
Coordinate the stakeholders required to carry out the activities of the projects for which he/she is directly responsible.
Guarantee the expertise of the solutions developed and ensure that the results are transferred to the business units and operational staff.
Ensure quality internal reporting (technical reports, annual reports).
Contribute to the transfer of expertise towards HQ personnel by organizing workshops, trainings.
Monitor technological developments and identify the Group's positioning in relation to its main competitors.
Contribute to the Group's representation in major national & international bodies (conferences, professional organizations, publications).
Candidate profile
Education: Ph.D. preferred or MSc in Geology
Experience: minimum 10 years of experience in the O&G; business including five years in the exploration/development of shale-gas/tight-oil resources.

Required Skills / Certifications :
Proficient in sedimentology, stratigraphy, geochemistry and petrophysics
Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary to create and present reports, publications, and to provide technical information and advice to management and other stakeholders.
Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to work in a diverse and multidisciplinary research team.
Willingness to travel.
