Chevron Australia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Geophysicist to join the Regional and New Ventures team. This permanent role will be based in Perth and will report to the Regional Exploration and New Ventures Manager.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Drive projects from a property estimation perspective such as fluid, porosity and facies
  • Provide project definition and work guidance for Chevron’s Energy Technology Company (ETC) and vendor researchers
  • Act as a key liaison with ETC’s Geophysical Research and Development team
  • Work on boundaries of seismic acquisition, seismic processing, reservoir properties from seismic (RPFS) analysis, and seismic interpretation
  • Conduct data investigations, analysis and assessment
  • Perform project management and project reporting
  • Assist the Exploration, New Field Development and Producing Asset teams’ with improved application of RPFS analysis to identify new opportunities, reduce uncertainty in reservoir quality, facies and fluid prediction, improve portfolio management and assist with regional development
  • Provide high end subject matter expertise consulting and advice in quantitative seismic interpretation in support of key exploration, appraisal and development efforts
  • Identify areas for analytical improvements and executive research programs
  • Commitment to health, environment and safety and Chevron best practices


Key skills and experience required:


  • Bachelor of Science degree, major in geophysics
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Geophysicist, preferably with a global oil and gas operator
  • Extensive experience with RPFS workflows and seismic processing
  • Strong interpretative and research skills
  • Exploration and petrophysics experience is preferred
  • Experience with Imaging Technique – Waveform Inversion is preferred
  • Strong networking, communication and stakeholder management skills and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and build key relationships that contribute to high-class business results
