Essential Job Duties
A Geologist Advisor will be responsible for providing regional geologic and localized geologic interpretations of the Permian Basin for various assets and play concepts.
The candidate will integrate with geophysicists, petrophysicists, and engineers to enhance evaluations. The candidate will have the ability to think regionally by integrating geological, petrophysical, geochemical, production and other appropriate data to build basin/play models and hi-grade areas within the Permian Basin for current development and future A&D; efforts. Finally, the candidate will work closely with reservoir engineering staff to arrive at proper development scenarios in Permian Basin asset areas to best maximize value generation from the reservoirs exploited.
This will require keen understanding of depositional, structural, and geochemical changes in a basin setting.
Collecting and integrating data of differing types and scales including, but not limited to, log, seismic, rock property, well performance, and land data to build an understanding of basin history, resource assessment, and develop play analysis.
Assist and/or guide current efforts on multi-county stratigraphic framework and subsurface correlations.
Develop detailed field/prospect studies using a multi-disciplinary team approach.
Lead geologic efforts at key asset area to be determined by working to exploit the reservoirs targeted in an efficient manner.
Generate and update maps, cross-sections, and technical presentations. Direct geoscience technician staff on updating of databases with tops, production data, core analysis, and other pertinent geologic information.
Create, generate, manage and present sound, high-quality geologic interpretations and recommendations for new acreage and/or drilling opportunities to senior management.
Coordinate well logging and coring activities with petrophysical staff.
Mentor to other geoscientists, interns, and technicians.
Successful track record generating prospects and finding hydrocarbons.
Understanding of play analysis including reserves, economics, and risk assessment. Capacity to weigh all factors and identify risks.
Experience in horizontal drilling and well operations.
Extensive experience in log analysis and petrophysical concepts.
Extensive experience in unconventional resource assessment with the ability to assess and communicate understanding of all aspects of a proper characterization workflow.
Ability to communicate technical data through the preparation and presentation of clear, concise, and persuasive oral/written opinions, reports, and presentations.
Geologic workstation experience, IHS-Markit Petra and SMT strongly preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team (Geophysics, Reservoir, Engineering, and Land).
Strong time management and organization skills.
Ability to direct technical workflows and provide positive motivation to accomplish team goals.
Strategic thinker with the ability to introduce innovative and sound solutions adding the most value to the company.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in a broad spectrum of settings, especially being able to tailor communication to specific audience.
Self-driven individual that is results oriented and can deliver on commitments.
Minimum 15-20 years’ experience as a petroleum geologist.
A Bachelor’s degree in Geology is required, Master’s degree preferred.
Prior experience in the Permian Basin is preferred.
Resource play experience is required.
