This position requires integration with engineers, geophysicists, and petrophysicists working on the team to enhance design and execution of development drilling programs and subsurface evaluations. The candidate will have the ability to integrate subsurface information, including geological, petrophysical, geochemical and production data to high-grade areas within established producing areas.  Experience with horizontal drilling operations is required.

Detailed Description

Essential Functions

  • Work within the team to generate development plans for multiple conventional and resource play opportunities.
  • Collect and integrate data of differing types and scales to build an understanding of the resource and its optimum development
  • Communicate and interact daily with reservoir, completion, and drilling engineers providing interpreted well logs, cross-sections, and subsurface maps
  • Create, generate, manage and present sound, high-quality geologic interpretations and drilling opportunities to management
  • Develop regional, multi-county stratigraphic framework and subsurface correlations
  • Coordinate well logging and coring activities
  • Mentor other geologists, interns and technicians

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Able to work in multi-disciplinary team (Geophysics, Reservoir, Engineering and Land)
  • Proficiency with geoscience workstation software from major vendors for mapping structure, reservoir properties and facies and producing well log correlations, cross-sections and well-seismic calibration.  These interpretations will incorporate completion and production data
  • Experience with Geographix is preferred, but not a requirement.
  • Experience planning and monitoring horizontal wells and a working knowledge of geosteering techniques
  • Extensive experience in log analysis
  • Experience in unconventional resource development and resource estimation
  • Understanding of play analysis, reserves analysis, economics and risk assessment
  • Strategic thinker with ability to introduce innovative and sound solutions adding the most value to the company
  • Ability to communicate technical data through the preparation and presentation of clear, concise and persuasive oral/written opinions, reports and presentations
  • Team oriented with good interpersonal communication skills and the ability to integrate with others while maintaining a positive and productive work environment
  • Extremely organized with the capacity to plan, prioritize and complete multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to deliver outstanding results with minimum supervision

Job Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geology is required: Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience
  • Experience in log evaluation/interpretation
  • Experience with horizontal drilling operations and geosteering
  • Some travel to field operations may be required
  • Normal office environment
