This position requires integration with geophysicists, petrophysicists and engineers working on the team to enhance design and execution of development drilling programs and subsurface evaluations. The candidate will have the ability to integrate subsurface information, including geological, petrophysical, geochemical and production data to high-grade areas within established producing areas. Experience with horizontal drilling operations and resource plays is required.
Work within the teams to generate development plans for multiple unconventional play opportunities.
Collect and integrate data of differing types and scales including log, seismic, rock property, well performance and land data to build an understanding of basin history, resource assessment and develop play analysis
Develop regional, multi-county stratigraphic framework and subsurface correlations
Develop detailed field/prospect studies using a multi-disciplinary team approach
Generate and update maps, cross-sections and technical presentations. Direct the updating of databases with tops, production data, core analysis, and other pertinent geological data.
Create, generate, manage and present sound, high-quality geologic interpretations and recommendations for new acreage and/or drilling opportunities to Sr. Management
Coordinate well logging and coring activities
Prepare play geoscience analysis including, integration of log data, geophysical data, rock property information, land data, well performance and other pertinent data
Successful track record of prospect generation and finding hydrocarbons
Mentor to other Geologists, Interns and Technicians
Communicate and interact daily with geophysicists, reservoir, completion, and drilling engineers providing interpreted well logs, cross-sections, and subsurface maps
Coordinate within the team to ensure that the team is informed and engaged
Master’s degree in Geology is required.
8+ years’ experience, including some in US onshore basins, Mid-continent SCOOP/STACK experience is strongly preferred.
Proficiency with geoscience workstation software for mapping structure, reservoir properties and facies and producing well log correlations, cross-sections and well-seismic calibration. These interpretations will incorporate completion and production data. Experience with Geographix and SMT is preferred.
Experience planning and monitoring HZ wells and a working knowledge of geosteering techniques. Experience in unconventional resource development and resource estimation is a plus.
Understanding of play analysis including reserves, economics, and risk assessment. Capacity to weigh all factors and identify risks.
An understanding of Geomechanics and petrophysics a plus.
