Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently seeking a Staff Geologist/Engineer to provide field and technical support on environmental and facilities projects, including site investigation, remedial investigation, remedial design, remedial construction, and decommissioning and demolition services. The candidate filling this position may also have the opportunity to learn and participate in geotechnical projects. The ideal candidate for this position is an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual. Strong interpersonal and writing skills are critical. The ideal candidate will have between one (1) and four (4) years of experience in the environmental field, preferably with an environmental consulting or engineering firm.Key ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and execute field sampling events, including soil, surface water, and groundwater sampling events in various site settingsProvide field and technical support for environmental investigations/remediation projects requiring drilling oversight, remedial construction, and reportingCollect and interpret technical dataPrepare boring logs, tables, charts/graphs and figuresAssist in writing work plans and reports in a concise technical mannerDevelop statements of work for subcontractorsSupports various senior Wood Project Managers and technical staff in the execution of project workProvide support for Due Diligence activities (Phase I/Phase II Environmental Assessments) Execute specific defined tasks in accordance with industry standard practice or federal or state government regulations and guidelines such as Leaking Underground Storage Tank (UST), US EPA, CERCLA, RCRA, Tiered Approach to Correct Action Objectives (TACO), etc.
Skills / Qualifications
Minimum of a BS in Environmental Science, Geology or Engineering required40-hour OSHA trainingMust be proficient in fundamental geologic skills: field notes, boring logs, contouring, graphing, lithologic descriptions, and cross-sectionsAcademic training or experience in hydrogeology a plusAbility to follow procedures and protocols for implementing data collection and other field tasksAbility to define and solve problems and ability to execute field tasksRequires willingness to work outdoors collecting environmental informationWillingness to expand skill set and work on projects/tasks outside the area of specializationAbility to work effectively with team members as well as independentlyStrong writing skills for field notes and technical reportsWillingness to travel on occasion
