The Sr. Staff Geologist will be charged with exploration and appraisal activities across existing areas while conducting new regional evaluations in order to develop new opportunities and support region acquisition evaluation efforts to achieve Company growth objectives. As a senior professional, applicant will be required to mentor less experienced staff and occasionally lead project evaluations.
Working as part of an integrated team covering multiple areas, the Sr Staff Geologist will:
Identify, quantify, and document leads and prospects on existing acreage and in new areas to develop them into actionable leasing opportunities and drillable prospects.
Work with the engineering team to optimize risking and economic assessments of new opportunities as well as appraisal planning for existing discoveries in assigned areas.
Develop and progress leasing / acreage acquisition opportunities.
Develop a strong and cooperative working relationship with region team Operations and development staff as well as 3 rd party partners.
Communicate effectively with corporate management to progress opportunities.
The preferred candidate will ideally be a 15+ year career exploration or development geoscientist. Strong communications skills are as important as technical competency.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
Generating new prospects and bringing forward opportunities that compete for Company investment. An ability to think creatively and work independently is a necessity.
Working with geophysicists, reservoir engineering and land staff to assess and document variable attributes of subsurface and above ground project risks for holistic evaluations.
Maintaining detailed knowledge of activity and geology in multiple basins.
Directly supporting drilling and evaluation of existing and new prospects.
Guide team into new focus areas based on prior experience and review of existing datasets.
Developing positive and effective working relationships with internal operations and development asset teams and external partners.
A large dataset of digital well and seismic data will be available, and the project geologist will have primary responsibility for data management in assigned areas and guiding less experienced staff in data management and project documentation best practices
Master’s degree in Geology preferred, but BS may be considered.
A minimum of 15 years of experience with a primary concentration in exploration.
Experience in both conventional and unconventional exploration, appraisal, and development
Track record demonstrating creation of prospects that were leased and drilled.
Proficiency in the use of Petra for data integration and interpretation required.
Experience integrating geophysical data into prospect analysis and solid foundation in structural geological concepts – current 2D and 3D seismic interpretation skills preferred with Petrel, GeoFrame or Kingdom exposure.
Experience in applying both play and prospect risk analysis techniques – applied Pete Rose methodology and documentation strongly preferred
Concentrated knowledge of at least two producing basins in onshore North America.
Proficiency in interpretation of petrophysical data and integration of core and test data.
Familiarity with source rock evaluation for basin and play assessments.
Excellent organizational skills and work prioritization, and commercial judgement to complement technical focus and handle multiple concurrent objectives effectively.
Ability to clearly summarize and communicate concepts and ideas both to peers and management in writing and in presentation.
Able to think and act creatively while maintaining focus on solving relevant and important technical challenges
Travel as needed to attend data-rooms, meet with stakeholders, and partners
