The Role
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Progress Energy is pleased to announce the creation of an Unconventional Center of Excellence (UCOE) in Calgary. The focus of this COE is to lead the company in unconventional petroleum development and production. Key deliverables include delivering technical innovation, providing expertise to other teams and technical recommendations to deliver our upstream priority of growing unconventional resources. The team will bring together technical experts, who collaborate and provide recommendations for optimizing performance on all unconventional development and production aspects of our business for Progress, and Petronas globally.
Progress Energy currently has a vacancy for a Senior Reservoir Engineer for the Unconventional Center of Excellence (UCOE) to join our team in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, this position will conduct integrated reservoir studies to assist in Resource evaluation, optimizing production and maximizing value to Progress’s unconventional assets. Main responsibilities will include evaluating relevant information for reservoir studies, building and running reservoir evaluation models to optimize and forecast production performance and evaluating emerging unconventional projects worldwide.
Work with geologists, geophysicists and exploitation engineers to determine the best possible technical interpretation and planning of a producing field
Provide guidance for optimizing immediate and long term production, including flow back strategies, recompletions, water shut off, pump optimization, pressure maintenance schemes, and EOR studies
Monitor and analyze performance and pressure of existing wells, and make recommendations for additional surveillance work, including cased hole logging, fiber optics, fluid analysis, well testing, and core analysis programs
Provide technical input into field development plans to maximize reserves capture and value over the full life of the producing assets within concession expiry timeframes
Assist in maintaining and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of corporate reserves through the company’s internal reserves tracking process
Provide engineering support of drilling operations (formation testing and interpretation), in both development and exploration, including review and recommendation of pressure and bottomhole sampling points from wireline formation testing tools
Conduct longer term, more complex studies to determine ultimate development and EOR strategies, including petrophysical evaluation, geostatistical modeling and numerical simulation
Evaluate the reservoir aspects and performance of unconventional exploration prospects to help meet corporate objectives
Monitor and recommend emerging unconventional reservoir technologies to enhance technical innovation and keep on the forefront of unconventional technology development
Some international travel may be required infrequently
Required Education, Experience and Skills
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, with a minimum of 10 -15 years of experience
International exposure to unconventional evaluations with a focus on shale gas & oil ( or Low perm tight reservoirs) is a significant asset
Working knowledge and experience in production decline analysis and Rate Transient Analysis in unconventional reservoirs is required.
Strong working knowledge and proficiency in Accumap, GeoScout, WellView, Windows and MS Office
Knowledge and experience with unconventional reservoir simulation (Eclipse, GEM, etc...) is a definite asset.
Programming experience in VBA or MATLAB is an asset.
Excellent analytical and communications skills
Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects at once
Ability to adapt to changing priorities
Ability to work in a fast paced environment within cross functional teams and effectively engage others in support of projects and initiatives
