The Senior Reservoir Engineer for the Reserves, Budget, and Special Projects Team in Houston is responsible for the assisting with the oversight & coordination of the Eagle Ford asset reserves and budget processes for the ST region ensuring they are assessed and reported accurately and consistently. Additionally, the engineer will collaborate with other team members to support special technical projects which may include complex engineering assignments on an independent basis, with a focus on integrating all available data. Has demonstrable skills and technical expertise related to project management, asset development, & economic analysis– especially as relevant to unconventional plays. Works well in a multi-discipline team environment and can mentor less experienced engineering staff & technicians as required. The successful candidate will prepare technical evaluations and presentations for Senior Management
Essential Roles and Responsibilities
Assist with update regional Mid-Year & Year End Reserves & Quarterly Budget and communicate timelines and ensure tasks are completed timely and accurately.
Work interactively with corporate and regional personnel to insure consistency and completeness of reserves and resource assessments in accordance with SEC and PRMS rules and regulations.
Provide data in support of the long range planning process & portfolio optimization.
Work with asset team members to understand obligatory versus non-obligatory development requirements to incorporate into budget and reserves sensitivities
Ensure reserves booking are aligned with SM budget and Long range plan and meet 5 year rule requirements as set forth by the SEC
Coordinate with teams responsible for the review & analysis of financial data including but not limited to capital, operating costs, taxes, and production data in support of Company’s economic evaluations.
Reconcile changes in quarterly budgets and bi-annual reserves
Reconcile / report on monthly variances to budget
Conduct technical studies / special projects in support of the regional asset teams and assist with project review & workflow development as needed which may include but not limited to decline curve analysis, rate transient analysis, volumetrics & material balance, incorporation of PVT data, special economic analysis, benchmarking studies, MVA / Data Analytics, etc.
Develop correlations between geologic and completion variables and well performance. Ability to perform multivariant analysis to incorporate the impact of well spacing and completion variables into forecast assumptions
Assist in technical studies in support of A&D; transactions
Perform benchmarking studies of offset operators
Accurately integrate physics based and data science techniques to improve predictions and data quality
Mentor and train less experienced engineers as needed
Assist in technical evaluations and presentations of materials for the executive management team and investor relations departments
Seeks to improve and increase efficiency of routine analysis
Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Expert knowledge in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Access are required) applications to manipulate and interpret data and reports
Expert knowledge of Aries or other economic evaluation software programs
Expert knowledge of Data Visualization tools such as Spotfire
Experience in coding R or other language a plus
Experience on a Data Science / Analytics focused team a plus
Knowledge of unconventional reservoirs and multiple basins a plus
Advanced understanding of engineering economic evaluations
Ability to thrive in both an independent and collaborative work environment and have exceptional skills in managing multiple demands, including prioritizing deadlines
Strong analytical, numeric and problem-solving skills
Effective team player who takes an active role in team responsibilities
Ability to grasp new concepts quickly
Excellent written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with industry/company software including: IHS Harmony, Crystal Ball, Enersight, Wellview, AVM & Data Cubes - a plus
Working knowledge and practical application of volumetric calculations, decline curve reserve determinations, appropriate analogue techniques and material balance assessments
Demonstrated ability to produce results that meet economic goals and make economic recommendations that have a positive financial impact
Driven, organized and detail oriented
B.S. degree in Engineering required.
Minimum 8 years of industry experience
