SM Energy is seeking someone who will provide Petrophysical support to functions involved with drilling, exploration, production, and discovery activities in unconventional reservoir settings working closely with Geologists, Geophysicists and Engineers to better understand the rock properties of target reservoirs. This person will direct the detailed characterization of rock properties by implementing well log measurements and evaluation, core analysis and various other data types into detailed reservoir characterization studies. This person will also be responsible for the dissemination of rock properties to ensure teams implement the appropriate approach to finding and extracting oil and gas from subsurface formations.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the asset/business development teams on project petrophysical analysis
Establish best practices, procedures and work flows for regional petrophysical analysis
Instruct those with an aptitude for petrophysics on methodology and principles
Conduct petrophysical analysis on resource plays to include shale, tight sand and carbonates
Provide operational petrophysical support to new wells and drilling programs
Integrate open-hole log data, conventional and sidewall core data, image data, seismic data, and micro-seismic data into the decision process
Interface with logging & coring vendors in order to provide petrophysical support for region
Apply familiarity with open-hole logging designs, tool combinations, and acquisition techniques to optimize data utilization
Keep current with leading logging (wire line & LWD) technologies and their applications
Keep abreast of new interpretation techniques as they relate to areas of responsibilities
Interface with regional asset/exploration teams to maximize knowledge and technology transfer

Expert knowledge and experience with rock physics modeling and unconventional resource plays. Expert knowledge of log interpretations, petro physics, including tool physics, wireline and core and LWD technologies. Ability to integrate petrophysical work with geophysics, rock properties, field productions and seismic models is essential. Skilled in multiple basins/plays within a region. Working knowledge of plays in other regions.
M.S. degree in Geology or Geophysics is required.
Minimum of 10 years of industry experience which covers the full life cycle of the modern resource play. Permian Basin experience preferred. Extensive experience integrating core results with log data when developing petrophysical models and interpretations. Medium to large oil company experience preferred; service company experience is a plus. Track record of involvement with successfully completed projects with exposure to the full project cycle; discovery through development phase.
