We’re seeking a Senior Geophysicist to join our New Ventures team in Uxbridge.
We have an exciting period ahead of us with the appraisal of the new Glengorm discovery, and active drilling programmes on other prospects in the West of Shetland area. CNOOC International currently have the most active drilling programme in the North Sea with our commitment to exploration and infill drilling activity.
Reporting to the Manager – New Ventures, you will be primarily responsible for delivering against this team’s work plan with high-class technical evaluations and review of our license and farm-in opportunities in the Europe Africa region. You will work with the team to grow the CNOOC exploration portfolio in Europe and Africa, and your primary task will be to interpret our regional seismic databases, generating plays and prospects, in addition to evaluating and recommending acreage or assets for farm-in, acquisition or licensing. The appointee will work with asset teams and New Ventures Teams in other regions to share knowledge and technical skills.
We actively encourage the sharing of technical expertise around the geoscience community, so you will be encouraged to disseminate your technical expertise to others in the global geoscience world. This may be specific technical skills or basin/regional knowledge.
Successful candidates will have a track record of supporting Exploration teams in the evaluation and maturation of leads and prospects. You will play a key role in delivering best-in-class results for our New Ventures team through:
Leading technical work on key New Venture Projects, integrating data from multiple locations and contributors
Working closely with Geological teams to identify regional petroleum systems and focus technical evaluations on areas likely to drill worthy prospects
Working with our Geophysical Advisor to recommend acquisition and/or purchase of Geophysical data, potential field and EM data for regional assessment, play trend analysis and prospect evaluation
Providing Geophysical input into the evaluation of new opportunities in bid rounds, farm-ins and New Ventures opportunities
Working with Data Management and Technologists to ensure efficient loading of seismic and related data sets
Interpretation of seismic 2 and 3D volumes and potential field data, generate seismic velocity models for time depth conversion, model well and seismic attributes to reduce uncertainty on reservoir and fluid discrimination
Collaboration with our Geologists on preparation of Geox assessment of prospects
Assessing prospect resource and risk, working closely with Technical Assurance and wider New Ventures Team to fully assure prospects
Presentation of prospects to CNOOC’s Peer Review Team, Management and Partners
Development and dissemination of technical expertise within the CNOOC Geophysical Team
Be familiar with advances in Geophysics and work with the Geophysical community in CNOOC to promote leading edge Geophysics throughout our Technical Teams
Who are we looking for?
Successful candidates will have a track record of finding hydro-carbons and have previously worked in a New Venture environment. We are particularly interested in you if you have the following skills and knowledge:
Proven oil finder, with the ability to integrate geophysical and geological data, focused on achieving goals
Experience of working as a new venture/exploration geophysicist in the oil and gas industry, including regional evaluations, play fairway mapping and high-grading of basins
Experience of 2 and 3D seismic interpretation both onshore and offshore, generating, recommending and ranking of exploration prospects and leads
Experience in a variety of structural and stratigraphic play types, particularly in deep water, is desirable
Broad experience in clastics and carbonates essential
Strong track record of generating prospects and plays, with subsequent discoveries
Expertise in one or more topics, such as QI, seismic attributes analysis, AVO, processing etc
The capability to create basin-scale and prospect-scale assessments in a timely fashion
Proficient using PC and UNIX/LINUX applications (Petrel, Kingdom, Attribute analysis, Paleoscan / Spectral Decon, Hampson Russell / Inversion software, RokDoc, Potential Field modeling software)
