The Role
Progress Energy currently has a vacancy for a Sr. Geological Technologist to join our team in Calgary. Reporting to the Team Lead, Geology, the successful candidate will provide geo-technical support to a team of geologists and geophysicists and will be responsible for providing geological data and analysis in the development of drilling and exploitation programs for an assigned area. The incumbent will also evaluate geological data and well information, preparing maps, graphs and various forms of geotechnical information, including maintaining specific software for assets within Canada and internationally.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Create and manage projects in Petrel, Petra and GeoScout
Maintain geological information databases, tracking and updating data/information, generating reports and data summaries, and identifying and resolving data discrepancies
Participate in the development and implementation of process improvements, gathering information/reports, conducting preliminary research, synthesizing information and summarizing findings
Assist area geologists and geological technologists with geotechnical aspects of day-to-day operations
Participate in department projects and initiatives, providing input, supporting research and information, and managing assigned tasks, deliverables and timelines
Identify opportunities for improvement to support area review activities and initiatives by researching industry best practices and emerging trends, summarizing findings and providing results and ideas for review by senior staff
Required Education, Experience and Skills
Geosciences related diploma from an accredited college or institution (SAIT/NAIT)
10+ years’ experience within the oil and gas industry
Successful candidate will be organized, practical in their knowledge base, with an attention to detail and comfortable working in a digital environment
Proficient in: Petrel, Petra, Geoscout, Power Point, Excel
Familiarity with: ArcGIS, Global Mapper (mapping packages) and Computer language scripting would be considered an asset
Very organized, with a high attention to detail
Able to prioritize work, multi-task and adapt to changing priorities in a fast paced, high volume team environment
