The Role
Progress Energy is pleased to announce the creation of an Unconventional Center of Excellence (UCOE) in Calgary. The focus of this COE is to lead the company in unconventional petroleum development and production. Key deliverables include delivering technical innovation, providing expertise to other teams and technical recommendations to deliver our upstream priority of growing unconventional resources. The team will bring together technical experts, who collaborate and provide recommendations for optimizing performance on all unconventional development and production aspects of our business for Progress, and Petronas globally.

Progress Energy currently has a vacancy for a Sr. Exploitation Engineer for the Unconventional Center of Excellence (UCOE) to join our team in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, Engineering, this position will be responsible for the evaluation, development and optimization of new and existing unconventional oil and gas assets within the company. Main responsibilities will include providing technical input and guidance for emerging exploration/exploitation prospects, developing long-term development plans and optimizing existing developments. This role will provide exposure multiple unconventional opportunities within the global organization.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Monitor on-going activity within the unconventional sector and evaluate emerging exploration/exploitation prospects to help meet corporate objectives
Work with the multi-disciplinary UCOE team to determine the best possible technical interpretation and planning of a development prospect
Create and manage full field development plans for emerging prospects to determine the optimum economic potential. Compile individual prospect capital cost assumptions, preparing forecasts and projections, identifying optimization opportunities and evaluate economic scenarios
Conduct detailed technical research and provide data analysis to recommend cost-reduction initiatives and production/completion optimization opportunities
Develop relationships with professional associations and unconventional industry peers to keep current on best practices and trends impacting development
Provide recommendations to optimize drilling and completions of wells, by monitoring well and reservoir performance, identify depletion or optimization opportunities for existing assets and provide technical input into field development plans
Prepare proposals and business cases for projects to optimize asset development. Develop project scope and objectives, manage deliverables, timelines, resources and related budgets, resolve issues and prepare and present progress reports
Provide support to the evaluations engineering team in booking corporate reserves while working with third party evaluator(s) to ensure comprehensive assessments and interpretations are completed
Required Education, Experience and Skills
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, with a minimum of 10+ years of experience in a development or exploitation engineering role
International exposure to unconventional evaluations with a focus on shale gas & oil ( or low perm tight reservoirs) is a significant asset
Must be proficient with economic analysis and full field development scenario creation
Strong working knowledge of ValNav or Mosaic is required.
Working knowledge and experience in production decline analysis and Rate Transient Analysis (RTA) in unconventional reservoirs is an asset.
Strong working knowledge and proficiency in Accumap, GeoScout, Harmony, WellView, Windows and MS Office
Programming experience in VBA or MATLAB is an asset
Excellent analytical and communications skills
Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects at once
Ability to adapt to changing priorities
Ability to work in a fast paced environment within cross functional teams and effectively engage others in support of projects and initiatives
