The Role
PETRONAS Canada is currently seeking a Sr. Exploitation Engineer to join the team in Calgary. Reporting to the Manager, Exploitation, the successful incumbent will be responsible for the development and optimization of our unconventional assets in the Montney. The incumbent will be a self-starter with strong communication and critical thinking skills, and a solid reservoir engineering background.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Provide technical input and guidance for short- and long-term planning used in the Upstream Development Plan for the North Montney Joint Venture (NMJV)
Coordinate assignments of a multi-disciplinary team to support the development and optimization of the NMJV
Prepare proposals and business cases for projects to enhance the development of management areas within the NMJV. Develop project scope and objectives, manage deliverables, timelines, resources and related budgets. Resolve issues and prepare and present progress reports
Provide recommendations to optimize drilling and completing of wells by monitoring well and reservoir performance, identifying depletion or optimization opportunities, and providing technical input into field development plans
Conduct detailed technical research and provide data analysis to recommend cost-reduction initiatives and production/completion optimization opportunities
Identify opportunities for improvement on technical applications to support development activities and initiatives
Develop relationships with professional associations and unconventional industry peers to keep current on best practices and trends impacting development
Monitor industry unconventional activity and evaluate emerging exploration and exploitation prospects to help meet corporate objectives
Compile individual area budgets, prepare forecasts and projections, explain variances, and review AFE expenditures
Provide support to the evaluations engineering team in booking corporate reserves and working with third-party evaluator to ensure completion of comprehensive assessments and interpretations
Provide reservoir engineering support to the team with aspects such as RTA modeling, impact of key parameters (frac height, well spacing) for modeling EUR, suggesting surveillance plans for the reservoir that should be considered to optimize the future development.
Provide the exploitation team with reservoir expertise and mentoring to increase the reservoir technical skillset of the group
Other special projects as required
Required Education, Experience and Skills
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, with a minimum 10 years of experience in a Development Engineering role
Reservoir engineering experience is essential
Proven work experience within unconventional resources with a thorough understanding of all aspects involved in managing an asset
Strong working knowledge and proficiency in GeoScout, WellView, Harmony, Val Nav, Enersight, Windows, and MS Office
Working knowledge and experience in production decline analysis and Rate Transient Analysis (RTA) in unconventional reservoirs is an asset
Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communications skills
Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects at once
Ability to work as part of cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
Demonstrated ability to effectively engage others in support of projects and initiatives
