Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Exploitation Engineer based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In this role the candidate will increase asset value by providing technical expertise to the Company’s operations team, engineers, geologists and geophysicists and will be accountable for day to day production and production enhancement responsibilities, as well as exploration and development opportunities through depletion planning, technical evaluation and opportunity identification of The Netherlands assets.

Liaising across the other technical disciplines, the key objective is to maximize production and improve overall performance of the existing portfolio and build asset value, utilizing reservoir and production management to maximize oil and gas recovery and create a portfolio of development opportunities to drive growth in the Netherlands Business Unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • HSE: Maintain a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace
  • Generation and prioritization of reserve conversion and optimization opportunities
  • Field, pool and well reviews to identify reservoir management, drilling, workover, recompletion and surface facility debottlenecking opportunities
  • Provide estimation and evaluation of opportunities including productivity, reserves, costs, timing and risk value determination.  Economic evaluations of capital projects
  • Project management of major capital projects.  Responsible for ensuring all projects have adequate resources for project assessment, detailed design and execution to ensure that projects deliver expectations. Liaise with the operations and facilities team to recommend production facilities
  • Initiate, monitor and optimize the depletion strategies of the Company’s existing and new assets
  • Optimize tie-in routes, gathering systems, compression, dehydration and other facilities
  • Cost management for drilling/ workover/facility operations to maximize project opportunities
  • Providing production forecasts for assigned assets
  • Providing guidance where required to operations staff on well related issues
  • Support Reservoir Engineer in the annual reserves assessment for assigned asset
  • Maintain open and regular communications with the operations and compliance teams
  • Implement company strategy within the corporate business plan
  • Coordination of annual capital budget
  • Applying oil and gas asset evaluation experience to the evaluation of acquisition and divestiture opportunities and the preparation of the associated business proposals
  • Maintaining area knowledge and expertise to exploit opportunities including acquisitions, farm-ins, competitor activities and other market related information
  • Lead, participate and support team in managing the workflow relative to goals with regular communication, team meetings, work planning, opportunity prioritization, etc.

First Year Deliverables

  • Deliver budgeted base production and efficient execution of exploration and development projects
  • Identification, prioritization and maturation of an opportunity inventory in assigned asset area
  • Update of field development plan for the assigned asset area based on new technical work and ongoing planning

Essential Experience & Skills

  • +7 years’ experience in Petroleum Engineering related roles
  • Strong track record of delivering value adding results through opportunity generation and execution
  • A self-starter with proven ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Having made significant contribution to development projects and enhancing recovery from producing assets
  • Experience with hydraulic stimulation design and execution
  • A solid understanding of well operations and completion techniques
  • A strong background in well integrity practices
  • A proven leader; self-motivated and keen to share knowledge, forge relationships and co-ordinate work from other disciplines
  • Your technical skills will be combined with exposure to broader commercial aspects
  • Be able to demonstrate a firm understanding of the oil and gas business as a whole
  • Excellent analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills
  • Strong Communication Skills both written and verbal

Education

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline
  • Must be fluent in English
  • The ability to speak Dutch will be considered an asset
