The Sr. Development Geologist collects and integrates geological, geophysical and drilling data to generate exploration, appraisal and development interpretations and recommendations. Generates structural and stratigraphic maps, cross-sections, well log correlations, structural/stratigraphic framework analyses, biostratigraphic, lithostratigraphic, geochemical, seal and pressure data as required for subsurface evaluations. Proactively leads the safety of employees, contractors, Noble resources and protecting the environment.
This position is an opportunity to work in a cross-functional team environment with other Geoscientists and Engineers performing reservoir characterization, modeling and field development planning for conventional offshore projects. Primary duties involve performing detailed geologic studies to plan and execute field development plans.
Professional and technical knowledge desired; Well-rounded geologist, broad knowledge-base in conventional reservoir characterization and geology, field development planning, economic analysis, uncertainty & risk analysis, the ability to work with multi-disciplinary groups and leverage Noble’s support groups. Must be collaborative with excellent communication skills along with the desire to reach out and engage other teams to achieve objectives, manage conflict as it arises, and leverage the Noble network.
Key member of a geoscience team comprised of geologists, geophysicists and engineers charged with optimizing oil and gas field development in a complex geologic environment.
Build 3D static reservoir models starting from discovery well through appraisal and development continually updating via new wells or data and always incorporating the regional geological understanding into the reservoir model. Also, facilitate up-scaling of static models for hand-off to Reservoir Engineer for dynamic modeling.
Autonomously interpret and integrate 3D seismic data with wells and other available geological information for creation of reservoir properties incorporated into geologic model used for reservoir characterization and reservoir management purposes.
Independently formulate and develop advanced geophysical and geological studies and programs for reservoir characterization and exploitation activities for field development projects.
Help prepare new and updated Plan of Development (POD) for assigned projects.
Represent Company at technical meetings with partners and host government officials.
Assist in the development of coring, logging and Petrophysical programs.
Use probabilistic and deterministic methods to analyze reservoir uncertainties, risks and resource ranges.
Utilize advanced seismic techniques to determine reservoir or field development uncertainties, reservoir distribution, quality, reservoir geomechanical properties, and hydrocarbon phase.
Actively investigate and identify additional field potential such as field extensions, or deeper potential reservoirs.
Support all aspects of the drilling program from regulatory document creation and submission to well planning and daily monitoring.
Participate and coordinate as required in reservoir management and production activities with other multi-discipline team members.
Create data packages used in presentations to third party partners. Collect, organize, evaluate, and map data to support prospects.
Mentor junior staff and recommend appropriate training.
Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Geology, or closely related field with a minimum of ten (10) years of conventual exploration or development geology experience.
At least three (3) years of recent experience with reservoir characterization of Shallow or Deep-Water development projects, including construction of Petrel static reservoir models for both field development planning and appraisal activities. Knowledgeable on all aspects of Petrel static model building encompassing object-based facies modeling, geostatistical analysis, usage of facies logs and variogram parameters and incorporation of seismic inversion products such as sand prediction and distribution.
West Africa experience essential.
Autonomous interpretation of 3D seismic data in supra and sub salt settings.
Proficient in prospect generation including play and fairway analysis, risk assessment and calculation of prospect volumetrics. Working knowledge of petroleum systems modeling and geochemistry principles.
Analysis and construction of structural and stratigraphic history of a basin.
Well log interpretation, outcrop and core interpretation skills, basic petrophysical analysis, and reservoir engineering fundamentals.
Understands and has previous involvement in basic pore pressure analysis, operations geology both horizontal and vertical well planning, and mudlogging.
Pre-Stack Time & Depth Migration principles.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Effective collaborator with experience working in a cross-functional team environment.
Ability to integrate and synthesize geology, geophysics, petrophysics, and engineering data into comprehensive interpretation.
Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations based on interpretations.
Time management skills to plan work and execute large studies to meet goals within time constraints.
Strong and effective communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
