Job Description
The Senior Staff, Reservoir Engineer is responsible for the development, evaluation, and piloting of new subsurface technology at Cenovus. This position will materially increase shareholder value by commercializing technologies that will lower operating costs for existing operation. The Reservoir Engineer uses in-depth knowledge of recovery technology and simulation tools to bring forward new opportunities for low cost bitumen recovery schemes. The incumbent will have a very clear understanding of subsurface operations, production operations, related technologies, and their impact on Cenovus’s bottom line.
Work Environment:
This is a fulltime position based in our downtown Calgary office.
Accountable for driving technology solution from concept to pilot and on to commercialization
Develop project plans for the implementation and commercialization of new technology
Provide leadership in the design and operation of technology pilots
Responsible for identification and development of new bitumen recovery schemes
Assess various recovery schemes for their technical and economic merits
Responsible for planning and coordinating the deployment of the technology
Drive technology pilots through a stage gated process
Lead projects requiring the development of high performance teams including geo-scientists, reservoir, production and facilities engineers, as well as field operators
Ensure high degree of data quality throughout pilot execution and baseline sampling
Collaborate, as necessary, with third parties, such as universities and research centres, in order to deliver technology to the field in a timely manner

Key Stakeholders:
Report directly to lead of Reservoir Technology Group within Technology Development
Work closely with other business units including reservoir management, asset teams, legal, and intellectual property teams
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
A track record of creativity and innovation in implementing oil recovery schemes in the field
Result-oriented, problem solver with preferably 15+ years of relevant industry experience in subsurface operations
Degree in engineering, science or related discipline
Extensive familiarity with reservoir simulation, and other commercial modeling tools
Must have a passion and drive to take ownership of projects from start to finish
Track record of execution in a highly collaborative team environment
Must possess standard computer skills (Word, Excel, Project, Power-point etc.)
Must have good communication skills
In depth knowledge of the oil industry and key economics drivers affecting the industry
Enthusiastic learner and possessing a healthy sense of humor are definite advantage
Ability to run reservoir simulations would be an asset
