Serve primarily as a technical authority on petrophysics with complimentary geophysics skills in pre-stack seismic inversion. The petrophysicist position applies geological and petrophysical expertise to develop models that will characterize the reservoir and optimize the development of unconventional (and possibly conventional) assets. Develop petrophysical models calibrated with core measurements for use in estimating reserves of key assets as well as new business opportunities. Combine petrophysical analyses and seismic inversion work to identify hydrocarbon target intervals and calculate EURs. Collaborate with Corporate (Geoscience, Engineering, Innovation), Permian Asset (D&C;, Operations, Facilities, HSE), and SMEs to ensure alignment of strategies with technical/operational/financial goals of the Company. Job Duties: Analyze and edit acoustic and density logs to calculate (input) data necessary for petrophysical characterization models that are used by geophysicists and geologists, as well as GEOP log processing for wellbore stability models for completion engineers. Work with pre-stack seismic inversion to help identify potential water injection zones in the San Andres Formation and improve drilling designs to handle the complexity of that formation. Provide detailed well log analysis for asset appraisal and development, and any A&D; efforts. Generate and implement modern petrophysical workflows for unconventional and conventional reservoirs. Utilize skills in data acquisition, tool theory/specifications/limitations, and core analysis to ensure quality of logging operations, petrophysical data, and vendor oversight. Responsible for AFE generation and cost tracking. Work with Corporate Geophysics to include seismic inversion processing using Hampson-Russell geophysical software. Work with asset teams to provide petrophysical support and collaborate with them to high-grade targets. Mentors less experienced staff in areas of expertise including wireline logging tools, theory and application, and interpretation of petrophysical data. Establish/maintain industry and regulatory relationships through participation in internal/external meetings, conferences, and symposia. Engage in training to further develop petrophysical expertise within the Company. Qualifications: 15-20+ years of experience with petrophysical model building for both unconventional and conventional reservoir targets, including but not limited to: porosity, water saturation, permeability, lithology, reserves in-place, and geomechanics. Masters degree (or better) in field. Experience with Techlog, Kingdom Suite (geophysics option), Petra, and Ultra-edit (LAS file editing). Experience with seismic inversion processing using Hampson Russell geophysical software. Position may require travel to the field assets in west Texas, possibly including weekends to oversee wellsite operations. Pioneer Natural Resources is an EEO/AA-M/F/disability/veteran Employer.
