Description

The Senior Reservoir Engineering Tech for the Strategic Planning, Analysis, and Business Development Team in Houston is responsible for technical support for the evaluation of new business opportunities and exploration projects. The Sr. Engineering Technician works independently to provide technical support and data analyses, and makes recommendations based on interpretation of data. Additional involvement in projects may include supporting of team members in creation of technical support tools, evaluation of financials in support of asset optimization initiatives, and other special projects on request. The Engineering Technician provides moderately complex technical, analytical and administrative support to the Engineering staff and serves as an integral technical support member.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
Support evaluation for mergers, acquisition, and divestitures including due diligence
Provide support for the technical evaluation of exploration projects
Extract, analyze, and assist with project automation of both technical and financial data from various internal and external systems including Aries, SharePoint, Spotfire, Enersight, Fekete, and various Financial and Technical Cubes
Provide supporting data via research from public sources such as IHS and regulatory agencies.
Generate monthly reports based on standard procedures to provide project performance tracking and ensure accuracy of data.
Assist engineers in the preparation of technical reports, analyses, evaluations and presentations as needed
Assist with benchmarking studies utilizing public data, 1Derrick, & RSE data sets
Analyze operational and financial data and incorporate into integrated economic models
Involvement in data room evaluations and data room preparations
Advanced creation of Spotfire visualizations, calculations, & analysis
Perform moderate calculations and preliminary analyses of data in support of engineering studies
Provide goal tracking, performance management, decline curve analysis, Aries database updates and management, economic cash flow reports, one lines, and queries of data from the Aries system
Ability to manage big data sets and an understanding of relational databases
Ability to utilize GIS to assist team with mapping needs a plus
Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities
Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Access are required) applications to manipulate and interpret data and reports
Advanced knowledge of Aries or other economic evaluation software programs
Advanced knowledge of Data Visualization tools such as Spotfire
Experience in coding R or other language a plus
SharePoint experience a plus
Experience on a Data Science / Analytics focused team a plus
Expert understanding of oil and gas economic evaluations a plus
Ability to thrive in both an independent and collaborative work environment and have exceptional skills in managing multiple demands, including prioritizing deadlines
Strong analytical, numeric and problem-solving skills
Effective team player who takes an active role in team responsibilities
Ability to grasp new concepts quickly
Excellent written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with industry/company software including: Enersight, Wellview, IHS, AVM & Data Cubes - a plus
Driven, organized and detail oriented
Ability to read work over, drilling and production reports (a plus)
Strong data management skills with demonstrated ability to build, maintain and extract information from databases
Ability to identify process improvements and utilize MS office, Spotfire, and programming skills to enhance functionality
Excellent written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
College Degree: S. required in GIS, Computer Science, Finance, Math, Engineering, Data Analytics, Statistics, or other technically related field
Minimum of 5 years of work experience with preference to prior industry experience
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Minimal
