Senior Reservoir Engineer – U.S. Gas Storage(Full-Time or Contract Opportunity)Rockpoint Gas Storage is the largest independent owner and operator of natural gas storage in North America, with strategically located assets in key natural gas producing and consuming regions. Rockpoint Gas Storage owns and operates multiple facilities, including the AECO Hub(TM) and Warwick in Alberta; Wild Goose and Lodi in California; Salt Plains in Oklahoma and 49% of Tres Palacios in Texas. In total, Rockpoint Gas Storage owns or contracts approximately 300 Bcf of gas storage capacity.The purpose of this document is to outline the basic role and responsibilities of the Senior Reservoir Engineer who will oversee the engineering for our US based Gas storage facilities. It is not the intent of this document to specify all actual duties associated with the position, but to give a general understanding of the expectations and capabilities the position carries.JOB CHARACTERISTICSPosition Description: Based in Calgary, and reporting to Vice President, Engineering and Operations, the Senior Reservoir Engineer is needed to support continued optimization and development efforts on new and existing assets within the United States. We are willing to hire a Contractor or a full-time employee for this role.Responsibilities: Reservoir and well management: Inventory control: Collecting, analyzing and interpreting pressure and gas inventory data using methods such as material balance, analytical and numerical modeling. Conducting quarterly and annual inventory reconciliation.Performance prediction and optimization: Developing and utilizing predictive reservoir, well and surface facilities capability models, predicting performance, recommending optimization strategies and communicating results to all stakeholders.Integrity assurance: Developing and implementing reservoir and well integrity monitoring, testing and prevention programs. Reviewing results and performing risk assessments. Making pro-active recommendations to preserve integrity of the system.Expansion and acquisition studies: Identifying storage optimization and expansion opportunities, supporting a multi-disciplinary team with the preparation of capital cost estimates and economic evaluations on various technical and commercial schemes.Regulatory compliance: Liaison: Acting as liaison between Rockpoint and the regulatory authorities. Monitoring changes to the regulatory landscape. Communicating requirements to all stakeholders and making recommendations.Regulatory compliance: Being fully knowledgeable of the applicable regulations and ensuring compliance to all regulatory requirements for the reservoirs and wells.Project management: Using appropriate resources, managing projects such as well workovers, pipeline and facility maintenance or upgrade projects.Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, with 10 years experience principally in reservoir/production engineering and project management, but exposure to other disciplines such as operations, geology, petrophysics would also be desirable.Strong gas reservoir engineering and development skills.Demonstrated experience in identifying, evaluating, promoting, developing and operating gas storage projects would be desirable.Previous experience in reservoir simulation.Well developed computer, communication, and interpersonal skills.Proven leadership and business skills.Works effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be able to travel occasionally to the United States.Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.Personal Attributes: The successful candidate will be professional, technically proficient and an independent thinker.S/he must be a hands-on performer who can both prepare and critically evaluate information and confidently make decisions; knows when to involve senior level team members with more sensitive issues.High attention to detail, organized and thorough, with a desire for continuous improvement.A hard worker who has the ability to handle pressure and meet tight deadlines in an environment with a high volume of activity.Demonstrated leadership competencies: able to positively influence others, coach, mentor and effectively direct projects and the work of others when required.A team player by nature, s/he must possess a strong set of personal and business values that coincide with that of Rockpoint Gas Storage.Possess strong communication skills to provide guidance and/or instruction to peers in the organization, adapts their communication/style to the audience, and explains difficult issues clearly to the appropriate audience.S/he must have integrity beyond reproach.For more information about Rockpoint Gas Storage, please visit our website at www.rockpointgs.comRockpoint Gas Storage is an equal opportunity employer and strongly supports diversity in the workplace; all candidates who are authorized to work in the country in which the job opportunity is located are welcome to apply.
