Oil Search was established in Papua New Guinea in 1929 and is the country’s largest oil producer and private employer. Over 95% of its assets are in PNG, where it holds oil and gas production and exploration licences plus a 29% interest in the US$19 billion PNG LNG Project. This world class liquefied natural gas (LNG) development, which delivered its first LNG sales in May 2014, has quadrupled Oil Search’s production and transformed the Company into a major LNG exporter.
As the Senior Reservoir Engineer you will be member of the Subsurface Team, responsible for maximising value from the company’s appraisal, development and production assets and accountable for applying appropriate techniques and technologies, to provide robust and defendable reservoir models, identify new reserves, optimise production and deplete the fields’ reserves in the most economical manner.
Ensure compliance with OSL’s HSES policies and standards in all activities.
Develop and maintain reservoir simulation models which are technically robust and defendable, and support reservoir development and depletion planning, reserves assessment and where required equity redetermination.
Optimise field development through recommendations for reservoir management and additional appraisal/development drilling or well intervention.
Coordinate and implement reservoir engineering activities including dynamic modelling, field depletion planning, reserves estimation, production forecasting and life of asset planning.
Ensure integration of and consistency between engineering and geological interpretations by collaborating with reservoir and petroleum engineers, petrophysicists and geologists.
Provide recovery factor, EUR and production forecast ranges for use in assessing the economics of projects, annual production forecasts, reserves reports and asset business plans.
Implement reservoir engineering best practices and ensure adherence to Oil Search standards, policies and guidelines.
Manage work priorities and professional development.
Supervise and mentor less experienced engineers in all aspects of reservoir modelling and simulation.
Represent the Company at technical committee meetings and workshops.
A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in the E & P business.
Experience in the application of reservoir engineering principles to oil and gas production in clastic reservoirs, with particular strength in reservoir simulation. Some carbonate experience would be advantageous.
Extensive experience in the analysis of reservoir, well and facility performance using common industry-wide software including Eclipse, MBAL, Prosper/GAP, PANSYSTEM, OFM, PVTsim (or equivalent software products)
Experience in leading engineering assignments in appraisal and development projects.
Experience in asset evaluation and integrated asset development planning.
Project management skills.
Ability to respond flexibly to the company’s needs, and understand the appropriate level of detail for the specific task.
Enthusiasm to work with and mentor PNG citizens in the workplace.
Experience in coaching and supervision of junior staff.
Motivation to continuously develop technical understanding and abilities.
Communication skills across disciplines.
