ConocoPhillips is recruiting a Reservoir Engineer to support our Surmont Oilsands asset. Reporting to the Surmont Base Exploitation Supervisor, this position is accountable for optimizing the recovery process by integrating reservoir management strategies into operational execution. This successful candidate will leverage the analysis of SAGD KPIs to drive production and integrate Subsurface GGRE understanding into the One Surmont operating strategy.
This role is based out of the Calgary office on a 5/2 schedule.
Evolve and execute the Reservoir Management Plan pertaining to the producing drainage areas
Characterize exploitation and subsurface opportunities and lead project justifications for budget consideration
Advance exploitation opportunities through stage gate approval processes, integrating and coordinating cross functional teams
Identify and support well optimization strategies and designs (steam splitters, TDFCD, bridge plugs, dilation, ESP conversions, steam allocation, etc.).
Manage drainage area steam chamber efficiencies and thief zone interactions
Collaborate with the development team(s) by providing feedback on operating asset’s lessons learned to be applied in future development areas and long term planning
Maintain and update short-term forecast scenarios for the operating asset
Ensure subsurface containment assurance (SCA)
Monitoring/Surveillance of KPIs (Monitoring and analyzing individual well performances (short/ mid/ long term) to identify problems and opportunities)
Monitoring observation wells data to support SCA and depletion strategies. Ensure quality of data and identify problems
Evaluation of alternative depletion strategies and technology pilots (ie: NCG, surfactants, de-watering, dilation, etc.) through collaboration with the technology, production, facilities, and subsurface teams
Evaluation and implementation of ramp down planning and optimization of late life drainage areas
Deliver steam optimization plan including operating pressure and subcool targets to Operations
Integrate with the bitumen treating, water treating, and steam generation teams to build curtailment plans for short-term maintenance work, economic, or regulatory curtailments
Annual drainage area reviews
Bachelor's degree or higher in Petroleum Engineering or related engineering field
8+ years of experience in the upstream oil & gas industry with a focus on SAGD assets
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada on a regular full-time basis without restrictions
Strong multi-tasking skills with ability to manage multiple ongoing activities
Understanding of surface facility and downhole well operations
Excellent written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Proven track record of progressing new ideas and technologies
