Reports to (Job Title): Senior Manager: Business Development
Purpose of Job /Role Intent:
Providing fit-for-purpose technical screening and evaluations of projects to build a portfolio of New Venture opportunities. The screening and evaluations would also support potential corporate acquisition opportunities.
The candidate should be able to work both collaboratively within a multi-discipline team and independently, when required, to ensure that appropriate data is gathered and processed, suitable models are built and calibrated, and potential solutions are evaluated, reviewed and reported. The Senior Reservoir Engineer will be required to work with the Senior Geoscientist and commercial/economic/legal support in data room visits and evaluations and independently scope out the technical work that is required.
The Senior Reservoir Engineer will be required to engage with other Subsurface, Engineering, and Commercial specialists on specific New Venture evaluations.
Core Elements of Job/Key Performance Indicators:
1. Perform technical activities to deliver consistent, high-quality analysis to support Sasol decision making.
Set the scope and deliverables of a required new venture technical evaluation
Proactively generate new opportunities through networking with business development and new venture staff within the Industry
Prepare technically robust and validated petroleum models and simulations based on inputs from the sub-surface team and/or inputs from the external data room. When all the required model inputs are not available, use judgment, industry benchmarks and/or analogues and document the risk and uncertainties of such methods.
Use the most appropriate tools, models, software and industry benchmarks
Ensure that standards, guidelines and best practice are followed. Assist with the development and maintenance of such standards to ensure that it is fit-for-purpose.
Present deliverables for peer review and close-out any review actions.
Present good quality reports and presentations of deliverables, clearly documenting assumptions, results, risks, action items and recommendations.
Must be able to work under extreme time pressure.
2. Team Work
Collaborate in integrated analyses, model-building and calibration. Participate in diverse teams to recommend solutions to business problems.

Understand and address stakeholder requirements and ensure regular feedback.
Actively develop a positive working relationship with customers/stakeholders.

Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree (Reservoir Engineering , Petroleum Engineering or other Science with a strong numerical component)
- MSc or PhD in a petroleum or earth science subject is an advantage.
- A business degree or petroleum business training would also be an advantage.
- Extended relevant experience (15 years+)
