Senior Reservoir Engineer


Reporting to the Manager, Reservoir Engineering, the Senior Reservoir Engineer will provide overall reservoir engineering support to SAGD start-up and well conversions, production optimization, reservoir management and safe operations. This role will work closely with Production, Geoscience, and Operations to ensure reservoir inputs incorporated as critical considerations for both short term operational decisions and long term development planning and optimization.


This position is based out of the Calgary Head Office and is a 6 month contract.




  • Works with multidisciplinary team members including Production, Operation, Geosciences, etc. to manage field operation on a daily basis
  • Supports to SAGD start-up and conversion, production ramp up, field operation and optimization
  • Conducts field data analysis, analytical and numerical studies to provide operational strategies dealing with reservoir impairments
  • Proposes and coordinates laboratory or field testing programs to help understand and resolve operation issues and design mitigation strategies.
  • Performs history matches and performance forecast updates of well/pads based on field production data
  • Analyzes field surveillance data to ensure safe operations
  • Supports reporting internal and to shareholders as required
  • Supports new SAGD technology screening and field testing design
  • Provides reservoir engineering and development support for shale gas joint venture projects as required
  • Mentors junior engineers and/or internship students




  • Undergraduate degree in Reservoir Engineering and APEGGA Professional Engineer Accreditation
  • Advanced degree an asset
  • 15+ years’ related reservoir engineering experience with 8+ years of oil sands SAGD reservoir engineering experience required
  • Strong expertise in the numerical simulation of thermal recovery methods
  • Familiarity with decline analysis tools for shale gas reservoir engineering studies an asset
  • Knowledge of geological principles impacting reservoir quality in in-situ oil sands development
  • Familiarity with geoSCOUT, OSIsoft PI or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with diverse personalities and work force
  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to speak and write Mandarin an asset
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Ability to travel to site as required
