Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada Education:
  • B.Sc. in Engineering from an accredited university
  • Registered with APEGA as a P.Eng. in good standing
  • 10+ years of reservoir engineering experience with recent experience in reservoir modeling, simulation/forecasting, and creating depletion strategies
  • Preference for candidates with Montney unconventional gas experience
  • Able to show practical experience in well planning and asset development
  • Knowledge of PTA, RTA, DFIT and other analysis tools is required
  • Proficient user of Accumap, Microsoft Office, ValNav, Harmony, Petrel/MBAL/CMG are essential
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team with individuals of various technical and non-technical backgrounds
  • Strategy and results orientated, decisive and self-motivated with excellent attention to detail

  • Able to prioritize workload, address ad hoc requests, and manage stress

Description:Reporting to the Manager, Subsurface Engineering – BC Montney, the Senior Reservoir Engineer will apply technical and operational skills towards the development of Murphy’s Montney unconventional gas assets.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct reservoir studies and generate/update type curves as required to advance the team technical understanding of the play
  • Develop metrics to monitor reservoir performance
  • Work closely with Geoscience staff to build accurate reservoir models to conduct simulation and forecasting using available software (MBAL, Petrel, CMG)
  • Propose and implement well testing methods (pressure tests, build-ups, DFITs, etc) for new and existing wells; evaluate data and use results towards improving the reservoir model
  • Responsible for reserves forecasting and quarterly updates as defined by MOCL’s internal reserve review process
  • Work with members of the Subsurface team (engineering and geoscience) to assist in well planning and development of reservoir depletion strategies and integrated long-range plans for the Montney assets to maximize value
  • Focus on increasing IP’s and EUR’s through effective reservoir management and improved completions technologies
  • Work closely with Drilling, Completions and Production staff to optimize future results and existing production
  • Monitor competitor activity in the area; network with area producers to stay informed of industry best practices, development trends, and new technologies
  • Assist in reviewing technical and economic evaluations of existing and new development areas, as well as identifying/implementing development strategies
  • Recommend acquisition opportunities and evaluating land sale properties
  • Contribute and participate in technical reviews and look backs
  • Prepare reports and presentations for management on various topics involving Montney development
