Cenovus Energy is looking to fill the position of Senior Reservoir Engineer. Reporting to the Staff, Reservoir Engineer, this position is responsible for the development, evaluation, and piloting of new subsurface technology at Cenovus. This position will materially increase shareholder value by commercializing technologies that will lower operating costs for existing operations. The Senior Reservoir Engineer uses in-depth knowledge of recovery technology and simulation tools to bring forward new opportunities for low cost bitumen recovery schemes.

The incumbent will have a very clear understanding of subsurface operations, related technologies, and their impact on Cenovus' bottom line.

Responsibilities:

    • Identify and develop new bitumen recovery schemes
    • Assess various recovery schemes for their technical and economic merits
    • Responsible to develop feasibility analysis, impact analysis and practical application of solutions
    • Develop project plans for the implementation and commercialization of new technology
    • Provide reservoir technology support for ongoing pilots across Cenovus
    • Plan and coordinate the deployment of the technology
    • Manage development of selected technologies from conception to field trials
    • Lead projects requiring collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including geo-scientists, reservoir, and facilities engineers to identify and act on high priority technologies
    • Collaborate, as necessary, with third parties, such as universities and research centres, in order to deliver technology to the field in a timely manner

Qualifications:

    • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
    • In depth familiarity with reservoir simulation, reservoir engineering,and thermal recovery systems in oilsands reservoirs
    • A track record of creativity and innovation in implementing technology related to subsurface technology
    • Result-oriented, problem solver with preferably 5+ years of relevant industry experience in subsurface operations
    • Degree in engineering, science or related discipline; graduate degree would be an asset
    • Extensive familiarity with reservoir simulation (e.g. CMG STARS), and other commercial modeling tools
    • Must have a passion and drive to take ownership of projects from start to finish
    • Track record of designing, planning and executing successful, high impact pilots
    • Track record of execution in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Must possess standard computer skills (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)
