The Senior Reservoir Engineer for the Strategic Planning, Analysis, and Business Development Team in Houston is responsible for the evaluation of new business opportunities, asset optimization, and technical support for exploration projects. The engineer handles complex engineering assignments on an independent basis, with a focus on integrating all available production, completion, reservoir, and geologic data to efficiently perform asset evaluations. This position operates independently while handling reservoir assignments of a broad scope and complex difficulty and over multiple play types. Has demonstrable skills and technical expertise related to project management, asset development, economic analysis, exploration, and A&D; evaluations – especially as relevant to unconventional plays. Works well in a multi-discipline team environment, and is able to mentor less experienced engineering staff as required. The successful candidate will prepare technical evaluations and presentations for Senior Management and /or potential buyers.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities
Assist in the identification of acquisition and exploration opportunities
Build production profiles for economic modeling based on EUR distributions
Analyze the asset with a holistic tool kit including rate or pressure transient analysis, volumetrics, analytical or numerical modeling, and decline curve analysis
Develop correlations between geologic and completion variables and well performance. Ability to perform multivariant analysis to incorporate the impact of well spacing and completion variables into forecast assumptions
Accurately integrate physics based and data science techniques to improve predictions and data quality
Provide estimations of resource volumes and recoverable hydrocarbons using probabilistic and deterministic volumetrics, EURs, and recovery factors consistent with SEC rules and regulations
Analyze operational and financial data and incorporate into integrated economic models
Involvement in data room evaluations and data room preparations
Design and implement data gathering programs to improve understanding and monetization of stacked, unconventional reservoirs
Coordinate with integrated planning team for the creation of AFE’s to execute development plans
Participate in acreage evaluations for bolt-on acquisitions
Mentor and train less experienced engineers as needed
Conduct technical studies in support of the regional asset teams and assist with project review & workflow development as needed
Ability to create and utilize technical workflows in Spotfire and ability to create and edit R coding in projects both independently and in conjunction with Data Analytics team
Assist in technical evaluations and presentations of materials for the executive management team and investor relations departments
Seeks to improve and increase efficiency of routine analysis
Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities
Other duties as assigned

Expert knowledge in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Access are required) applications to manipulate and interpret data and reports
Expert knowledge of Aries or other economic evaluation software programs
Expert knowledge of Data Visualization tools such as Spotfire
Experience in coding R or other language preferred
Experience on a Data Science / Analytics focused team a plus
Knowledge of unconventional reservoirs and multiple basins a plus
Advanced understanding of engineering economic evaluations
Ability to thrive in both an independent and collaborative work environment and have exceptional skills in managing multiple demands, including prioritizing deadlines
Strong analytical, numeric and problem-solving skills
Effective team player who takes an active role in team responsibilities
Ability to grasp new concepts quickly
Excellent written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Experience with industry/company software including: IHS Harmony, Crystal Ball, Enersight, Wellview, AVM & Data Cubes - a plus
Working knowledge and practical application of volumetric calculations, decline curve reserve determinations, appropriate analogue techniques and material balance assessments
Demonstrated ability to produce results that meet economic goals and make economic recommendations that have a positive financial impact
Driven, organized and detail oriented
B.S. degree in Engineering required.
