The PGS Seismic Imaging Technology (‘SIT’) department seeks a Senior Research Geophysicist, based in our Houston office.  The purpose of this position is to conduct research on advanced depth imaging and inversion solutions including migration algorithms, full waveform inversion, imaging of multiples, least squares migrations, model building, parameter estimations and to develop production software.

Main Tasks

- Conduct advanced research in the areas of seismic imaging and inversion;
- Develop high quality geophysical software for production processing;
- Contribute to timely delivery of products and services as specified in the annual R&D plan;
- Contribute to the verification of geophysical integrity of new technologies;
- Provides technology surveillance, recommend and lead technology changes for the organization;
- Embraces publication and presentation of research in various technical forums;
- Contribute to the preparation, review and release of technical reports;
- Carry out unscheduled programming and geophysical support for internal customers;
- Provide subject matter expertise to PGS business units and operations.

Qualifications & Experience

- PhD/MSc in Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent;
- Minimum 3+ years’ of research experience in seismic imaging, inversion or related areas;
- Strong theoretical and analytical skills;
- Proficiency in scientific programming, e.g., Fortran 90/95, C/C++, MPI, OpenMP;
- Knowledge of seismic data processing is preferred;
- Strong understanding of geophysical theory;
- Subject matter expert in specific areas of seismic imaging;
- Good knowledge of optimization theory, linear and non-linear inversion techniques;
- Ability to perform R&D tasks from proof of concepts to production software;
- Knowledge of best practices in seismic processing;
- Interest in emerging technologies, including but not limited to compressive sensing and machine learning;
- Engagement in publications and presentation of research;
- Ability to effectively communicate highly technical matters to diverse audiences, internally and externally;
- Strong skills in verbal and written English language;
- Self-motivation, adaptability, enthusiasm, creativity & initiative;
- Strong desire to learn;
- Good teamwork practices, responsibility & high integrity;
- Ability to rapidly adapt to PGS’s research and development environment;
- Liaise with users to convert business requirements into software specifications;
- Demonstrate individual responsibility in a team environment.
