PURPOSE OF ROLE
Specialist in Quantitative Interpretation (QI) of seismic data, Rock Physics, AVO and Seismic Inversion techniques. Concurrently filling in any gaps in necessary geological & geophysical skills & experience, and possibly developing other specialities, in order to progress to a more senior role. Specific focus on the following:
Working on Cairn’s operated and non-operated licence portfolio in the Region.
Quantitative geophysical support for all E&P; asset teams.
Assistance in evaluation of new business opportunities.
Mentoring, training and development of all geophysicists in relation to QI geophysical workflows.
Provide technical input into strategic business development decisions.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES – areas of responsibility
To build and maintain a material exploration position on the NCS and UKCS. This involves contributing as a team member on:
Performing QI/Rock Physics analyses to aid reservoir and fluid characterisation to de-risk exploration prospects or to aid field development.
Evaluating the company’s existing acreage positions
Generating leads and maturing them to prospects with appropriate risk levels prior to drilling
Representing Cairn at JV level to maximise the company’s influence on JV decisions
Providing technically sound recommendations to the Regional Exploration Manager, BD Manager and to QA/QC and management teams
Technical duties are wide ranging and may involve:
Rock physics modelling, fluid substitution and performing inversions using in-house software
Detuning studies, AVO and attribute analysis
Seismic reservoir characterisation
Analysis and modelling of CSEM and gravity data using in-house software
Identification and mapping of seismic sequences, geomorphologies and geobodies on 2D and 3D seismic data using Petrel
2D and 3D seismic interpretation and mapping using Petrel and Paleoscan
RGB blending visualisations of frequency decomposition or AVO analyses
Prospect and lead generation, volumetrics and risk assessment
Collation/Integration of data from multiple sources and map creation in GIS
Integration of 3rd party geological/geophysical studies into interpretation
Working with other geoscientists on integration of potential fields, CSEM, geochemical, petrophysical and other data and new technologies into interpretation
Working with petrophysicists to evaluate logs and samples and integrate this work with other geological and geophysical data into thorough evaluations
Working with other departmental specialists, such as structural geology, basin modelling, visualisation and operations geology/geophysics
Database maintenance for self and others as appropriate
Written and verbal reporting and appropriate presentations
Input to and delivery of exploration documents, including but not limited to: regional & block evaluations (including new ventures), well & seismic design & proposals, post-well/seismic evaluations, relinquishment proposals & reports as appropriate.
Daily interaction with Team members and frequent interaction with specialists from Exploration Function.
Frequent interaction with other Assets and Departments (e.g. Commercial, Engineering, Drilling, IM); also with senior management.
Asset Team meetings and networking.
Presentations to partners at TCM’s, and internal reviews etc.
Interaction with contractors, 3rd parties, academics and consultants; such meetings will often be instigated by the holder of this role.
Good Geophysical degree at Masters and/or PhD level. A Math or Physics degree will also be considered.
Relevant Experience / Skills:
Significant, proven, hands-on exploration experience, preferably with some of it gained in the North Sea.
Good working knowledge of seismic interpretation and geology is essential.
Track record of QI and Rock Physics expertise required.
Good working knowledge of seismic acquisition and processing also required.
Experience in CSEM- and gravity analysis is desirable.
Ability to use Petrel as well as relevant QI and inversion software.
Working knowledge of coding (Matlab, Python) is desirable.
Strong communication skills.
Seismic acquisition and processing experience advantageous.
