Description

Reporting
to the Manager, Geosciences, the Senior Operations Geologist will be
accountable for following and reporting on the drilling and completions
operations of PetroChina Canada’s Joint Venture partners. The assets under
development include Duvernay, Montney, and related formations. Additionally, this role will be responsible
for the planning, execution and integration of field and office-based
geological oil sands projects, including exploration and development programs,
project proposals, budget planning and tracking, procurement of geological
services, data collection, data interpretation and reporting.

This position is based in the Calgary Head Office.

Responsibilities


Monitoring the
acquisition of geological data by joint venture companies and constructing,
updating and evaluating geological models in support of reservoir
characterization and reservoir simulation studies

Reporting to management
on the status of ongoing geological studies and critical geological operations
through technical presentations and briefings as required on a daily or regular
basis

Coordinating
with CNPC affiliates to progress studies and share data and models as required

Supervising
Wellsite operations and specific contracts to perform well operation work for
all drilling activities and development well programs

Taking
a key role in the preparation of Geological Well Prognosis, end of well
documentation, analysis and reporting to Internal/external parties

Attending
daily drilling meetings and serving as a key Interface between wellsite and
development geoscience team

Assisting
with definition of Scope of Work and evaluation of geoscience related drilling
tenders and contracts (wireline, mud logging, coring, core analysis,
petrophysics, etc.)

The
experience to analyze model, well top, geological & operational
uncertainties and risks

Planning
delineation well drilling programs including procurement and budgeting of
geological services.

Execution
of delineation programs including data collection, data quality control, data
organization, interpretation and reporting of results

Conducting
detailed sedimentological characterization of reservoirs using core logging
techniques.

Performing
stratigraphic correlation and subsurface mapping of the assets

Performing
basic petrophysical interpretations of the reservoir

Conducting
geomodelling of reservoirs

Calculations
of in-place resource estimates and applying uncertainty analysis

Interacting
with various geological consulting and service companies

Communicating
closely with other disciplines including geophysicists, drilling engineers and
reservoir engineers

Corresponding
with the Energy and Resources Conservation Board (ERCB).

Planning,
developing and writing technical documents including commercial applications
and amendments

Mentoring
junior geologists.

Qualifications


B. Sc. in Geology

Masters of Geology an asset

APEGA accreditation an
asset

10 years’ Oilsands or
related geological experience

Good command of clastic
sedimentological description and interpretation

Advanced stratigraphic
correlation and subsurface mapping skills

Solid experience with both Unconventional
and Oilsands, vertical and horizontal drilling and completions operations
geology

Good knowledge of Petrel,
Techlog and GeoScout software

Good understanding of
geomodelling and geostatistics

Excellent planning and
execution skills

Capacity to execute
projects independently and efficiently

Strong interpersonal
skills, ability to work well with diverse personalities and work force

Ability to forge, grow
and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups

Strong written and oral
communication skills

Able to manage multiple
priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable
activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business
environment
