Role synopsis
BP is currently seeking a senior operations geologist to work in the Eastern Hemisphere Central NWD team in Sunbury. The successful candidate will be required to support/lead subsurface planning of wells (trajectory planning, overburden characterization, risk management, completion of well planning documentation) and provide the geological lead in communication and decision-making for the drilling of wells.
Key accountabilities
The successful candidates will work with Subsurface and Wells Teams in the area of:Well Planning:Ensure subsurface planning and execution of wells meets BP standards and practicesComplete detailed offset well reviews and construct detailed overburden models for trajectory planning. Lead well planning risk reviews.Lead trajectory planning, accounting for overburden complexity, risks and hazards.Preparation of pore pressure forecasts.Work with subsurface and drilling teams to create well planning documents including decision trees, data acquisition plans, risk management documentation.Well Execution:Provide effective communication between subsurface and drilling teams.Make operational decisions.Support/Lead the subsurface delivery of wells, monitoring real-time drilling information, integrating data with geomodels to advise Subsurface and Drilling teams on risk and uncertainty and inform operational decisions.Supervise Wellsite Geologists for the delivery of well objectives.Support planning and implementation of pore pressure detection and real-time updates of Pore Pressure/Fracture Gradient data.Support subsurface data acquisition, e.g. help operations petrophysicist with QC of DA plan and procedures.Lead subsurface input to post-well reviews. Write post well evaluation reportsManage relevant vendor personnel as related to subsurface deliveryDemonstrate visible leadership in NWD HSSE.Coach & mentor junior members of the team in all aspects of NWDSupport the functional NWD M&T agendaSafeguard continued alignment with GWO in the new GWO operating model
Essential Education
BSc / equivalent in Geology or related subject
Essential experience and job requirements
A good grounding in Geoscience is requiredProven track record of delivery in NWD, in particular operations geology.Relevant extensive experience in the oil/gas industrySignificant amount of operational experience, both as an operations geologist and as a wellsite geologist.Excellent communications skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of technical specialists across Functions and partners are necessaryAbility to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to create integrated products.Application of standard geological software (Petrel, TechLog)Intermediate to advanced interpretation skills of real-time data, wireline/LWD data and drilling informationAdvanced knowledge of pore pressure fundamentals.Comfortable working split-site and supporting multiple riglines, potentially in different countries / RegionsCross-discipline experience highly desirable, with strong teaching and coaching skills.Has the knowledge and experience of this activity to carry out complex, specialist or non-standard tasks confidently and consistently, and follow through independently.
