1Job Purpose: Performance of all Operations Geology related activities in support of QP’s international growth strategy. The role will focus on supporting the planning and drilling of a number of deep-water wells to be drilled by QP JV partnersA focus on Incident Free and safe operations.• Carry out well planning, execution and post well reporting.• Preparation of well proposals/prognoses.• Monitor relevant wells during drilling operations & reporting of operations to Management.• Cost effective drilling and formation evaluation provision.• Ensure third party specialists (wellsite geologist, pore pressure, stratigraphy, etc) are engaged for relevant wells, monitoring remotely or onsite as required.3Key Result Areas:
Mentors new graduates and geologists with less experience.
Works effectively with reservoir, petroleum, and drilling engineers and rig personnel.
Responsible for monitoring the exploration and appraisal well drilling operations such as drilling, logging, and coring.
To liaise with the wireline, mudlogging and MWD contractors in town on a-day-to-day operations
To do the daily geological report for submission to head office.
To review the geological and well status for a day to a Prospect/Field Geologist and Exploration Manager and to give ideas on how to solve and rectify the problem, if any.
To do some preliminary petrophysical/log analysis based on the available log data from the well drilled.
To do pressure interpretation of the available MDT pressure data from the existing wells and the new exploration wells.
To make sure that the Composite Log and the Final Geological Operations Report are completed by the wellsite geologist for each well drilled. This needs to be done right after completion of the well.
The candidate is expected to have the following specific skills in order to perform satisfactory in this position:
• General geological and geophysical knowledge.• Knowledge of standard industry software (e.g. Petrel).• An understanding of common drilling practices and petrophysics to work with other operational disciplines.• Understanding of PPFG & wellbore stability.• Understanding of mud logging, electric logging, LWD/MWD, pressure monitoring, and sampling techniques at the well site.• Ability to design and handle post-well analyses and Final well report writing along with the drilling and stimulation departments. 4Operating Environment, Framework and Boundaries: Multicultural, multinational, and multidisciplinary environment calls for sensitivity in the execution of this function.Some international travel may be required.5Communications and Working Relationships: Daily contact with Head of Department.Daily contact with other members of the Subsurface Group.Frequent contact with Geoscience Manager.Frequent contact with drilling personnel.Frequent contact with contractors Frequent contact with shareholder representatives.Periodic contact with Petroleum Engineering Manager.6Problem Solving/Complexity: Complex decision-making process requiring substantial experience of local conditions and considerable academic training. Recommendations have the potential to lead to the expenditure or savings of millions of dollars - evaluating the risk/reward profile is of paramount importance.7Decision Making Authority and Responsibility: Has a high degree of discretion on areas to investigate and methodologies to pursue.Responsible for mentoring/training group members with less experience and monitoring contractors.8Knowledge Skills and Experience: Fluent in English (demonstrated verbal and written skills).Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Minimum of a Bachelors degree in Geology or Geophysics from an accredited and recognized university.Minimum of 15 years post-degree, relevant working experience.Minimum of 8 years in deep-water operations, preferably in Gulf of Mexico or Brazil.Minimum of 5 years experience mentoring.Familiar with offshore operations and latest deep-water drilling technology, including Managed Pressure Drilling MPD techniques.Minimum of 5 years experience working in a multidisciplinary team.Minimum of 5 years new field development experience.Minimum of 5 years recent experience using industry standard software.Demonstrated ability to use common PC software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
