Following a successful Upstream country entry in Mexico in December 2016 and additional access acreage in March 2018, Mexico Exploration Team is currently accountable for delivery of exploration program for two BP-operated blocks (Campeche Block 1 and Sureste Block 34) and OBO Campeche Block 3. The Function is looking for a senior exploration geoscientist who will serve as technical leader in delivery of all the team’s activities, will take a proactive role in developing new exploration opportunities in Mexico and will contribute to the delivery of future access and exploration activities in a fast-paced environment. A successful candidate needs to exhibit good business and interpersonal skills as the role will interface with the NOC, JV partners, government entities in Mexico, and other companies and suppliers. The role will report to the Exploration Manager – Mexico who is a member of the Western Hemisphere Exploration LT and the Latin America Region LT with responsibilities for offshore exploration and conventional resource access in Mexico. The team also serves in advisory capacity to PanAmerican Energy Group (BP and Bridas JV) and Unconventional Access Team.The post offers an exciting opportunity to assume senior technical leadership role, responsibilities for technical excellence within the team, and direct contribution to delivery of Exploration business in Mexico.The role will require active interaction with other geoscientists, reservoir engineers, Finance, GWO (Global Wells Organization), GPO (Global Project Organization) and R&D; (Reservoir and Development) organizations in delivery of access and exploration projects
Develop, describe and deliver technical recommendations for new Exploration opportunities and concepts in MexicoContribute to maturation of current portfolio to deliver Read-to-Engineer recommendations for exploration wells, and subsequent exploration and appraisal drill-outWork closely with the Exploration Function technical leaders to maintain alignment in delivery of technical excellenceStructure and coordinate technical interactions with JV partners to maximize alignment in delivery of business goalsProvide technical or specialist advice and guidance for the Exploration Function and LATAM Region and contributes to the strategic direction of Mexico exploration businessProvides authoritative advice and expertise to diagnose, investigate and provide solutions to complex problemsProvides leadership in exploration, proposing changes in practices and recommending technical innovationsCoach and develop other members of the Western Hemisphere Exploration teams
A relevant professional degree in Geology or Geophysics; advanced degrees preferred
Essential experience and job requirements
Deep technical proficiency as a Geologist or GeophysicistExperience in planning, organizing and leading multiple exploration projectsTrack record in leveraging resources to achieve major goals and objectives within teams and projectsAbility to successfully manage large number of interfaces and relationships to ensure good communication and facilitate alignmentExperience in providing technical input to the function or region to solve problems, address challenges and resolve mis-alignmentAbility to contribute effectively in cross functional setting within a segment and work actively with other disciplinesStrong performance bias and the ability to deliver despite the pressures of tight timelines and competing prioritiesAbility to build collaborative relationships in a multicultural – multidisciplinary environment and communicate across a wide band of levels both within BP and externallyExperience and ability in delivering exploration projects using agile framework (for example Scrum)Strong verbal and written communication skills
