Joining Sinopec Canada as a Senior Geophysicist means becoming an important part of our team dedicated to making successful contributions to a sustainable future.Primary Purpose of PositionReporting to the Supervisor, Geoscience, this part time (2 to 3 days/week) Senior Geophysicist will provide sole geophysical support to Sinopec Canada.Roles and ResponsibilitiesDeliver high quality subsurface geophysical evaluations to enhance the development of Sinopec’s asset baseProvide horizontal and vertical drilling execution support such as:Assisting picking drilling locationsReviewing well paths to avoid geohazards and faults, etc.Interpret seismic data by tying wells using syntheticsPerform seismic forward modellingInterpret inversion dataPosition Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceDemonstrated ability to interpret seismic data and successful track record of adding value through seismic evaluation workCan work independently without any other internal geophysical guidanceMust have in-depth first hand experience will all aspects of seismic interpretation including seismic acquisition design, field acquisition, and processing techniquesMust be able to handle interpreting several seismic data projects during the same week and be comfortable with shifting prioritiesExperience preparing Mu-Rho and Lambda-rho plots to develop ‘fracability indices’Rock mechanics experience such as working with Poisson’s ratio and Young’s modulus dataExperience with AVO, attributes and direct hydrocarbon indicators would be beneficialMust be able to recognize when data quality is too poor or was acquired too poorly to be trustedMust have experience with a wide variety of play types and areas across Alberta and British Columbia but especially with the Montney unconventional play, Mannville channels, Devonian (Nisku) reefs, Rock Creek, Cardium and Belly RiverAble to provide detailed interpretation but also ‘quick look’ opinions without sometimes having the ‘ideal’ data quality or ‘ideal’ amount of dataAble to build and deliver presentations that clearly and effectively communicate your geophysical interpretations to both geoscientists and non-geoscientistsHigh level of integrity in all actions, complying with and promoting the company’s core values, a respectful work environment, and aligning with the code of business conduct.Demonstrated ability to understand and work well in a diverse and multi-cultural environmentDemonstrated ability to work well with other staff and drive the businessQualificationsSc. or higher degree in GeophysicsMinimum of 15-20 years of relevant oil and gas geophysics experienceMust demonstrate having working successfully as the sole (or lead) geophysical ‘provider’ to an oil and gas company and have worked independently without any other internal company geophysical guidanceMust have experience interpreting seismic inversion data, ideally over the Montney unconventional play (interpreting Montney inversion data will be one of your top initial priorities)APEGA MemberProficient with Seisware, Geosyn, PowerpointMust be legally qualified to work in CanadaCome work with us!If you are looking for meaningful new challenges and have a solutions-oriented attitude, we want to hear from you.
