Shell Oil Company is currently seeking a Senior Geophysicist, for its New Orleans, Louisiana location.
The Senior Geophysicist (GP) will be member of a Gulf of Mexico (GOM) Production Subsurface Team. The Senior Geophysicist will report to the Geophysics Team Lead (TL) and will support brownfield development and reservoir surveillance activities for the assets within a Production Unit (PU), focusing on optimizing reservoir recovery, and identifying reserves and development opportunities.
The Senior Geophysicist may also be responsible for providing technical reviews of geophysical projects, well maturation/delivery, and Well Reservoir Facility Management (WRFM) activities, as well as mentoring/coaching of less experienced geophysicists.
The successful candidate will be an important technical contributor to a multi-disciplinary PU Team and will be responsible for serving all the geophysical requirements of the assets, including:
Ensure geophysical data available over the assets are current and adequate for business goals and that the latest technologies and workflows are employed when appropriate.
Support of GP projects, particularly 3D/4D survey proposals, justifications, acquisition, processing, interpretation and reporting. In addition to managing seismic reprocessing, and quantitative interpretation projects (project delivery, QA/QC) and seafloor monitoring projects and needs.
Work closely with GP TL, GP Regional Discipline Leader (RDL) and Process Leaders regarding work planning to maintain effective and efficient projects and work environment.
GP support for well maturations and operations, IRM modeling and seismic processing projects.
Work closely with GP TL and GP RDL on coaching and mentorship of less experienced GP staff to build technical competencies.
Supporting operating plan and Annual Report of Petroleum Resources (ARPR) to understand the fundamental volumetrics and proactively provide geophysical input when needed.
Provide technical assists & reviews to peers.
Must be experienced communicating complex technical issues in terms that can be understood by team members, stakeholders and non-GP's.
Interfacing with all stakeholders including Asset and Development Managers, Process Leaders, Well's Organization, Partners, Regulatory, Subsea, WRFM and Operations teams
Integrate HSSE into well planning, design and construction.
Support permitting & regulatory compliance - supporting producing areas, providing input into CID, unitization and comingling permits.
Provide key input and integration of Field Development Planning.
Effective interface with the WRFM, surveillance and operations teams.
The Senior Geophysicist role sits within the Producing Assets Deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The PU team will include both Direct Vertical Access (DVA), as well as subsea, facilities and fields; and the Senior GP position will have flexibility to move between the assets as project levels demand. The role provides an opportunity to work on a range of geophysical and development projects and studies across multiple geologically diverse reservoirs.

Technical GP with at least ten (10+) years industry experience, particularly deepwater production and development.
The position requires the candidate to perform seamlessly in multi-disciplinary teams, staff mentorship, project assurance, identify and initiate new opportunities, support multiple projects and fields, and work effectively with stakeholders including partners.
Demonstrated proficiency in 3D and 4D seismic interpretations. Ample experience in OBN data and azimuthal data analysis. Proficiency in seismic attribute analysis and seismic inversion. Experience in DAS interpretation is a plus.
Proven record of maturing opportunities in deepwater settings.
Thoroughly understand subsurface uncertainties (structural positioning, reservoir and fluid properties) and can fluently relate to business decisions at hand to guide project teams to derive efficient and robust subsurface solutions.
Skilled in well delivery and Integrated Reservoir Modeling (IRM) processes and understand how geophysics interact with other disciplines - when geophysics can impact and what the limitations are.
Proficient in all aspects of quantitative interpretation (QI), including synthetic modeling, spectral & depth decomposition, illumination & de-remigration studies, seismic inversions, Close-the-Loop etc. Proficiency with QI software such as Jason, Hampson-Russell and Rokdoc.
Solid understanding of seismic processing workflows, including 3D&4D, AVO analysis, advanced seismic attributes, depth imaging methods (FWI, Hi-Res tomography, etc) and illumination studies. Able to conduct in-depth technical discussions and provide constructive suggestions.
Demonstration of drive, enthusiasm and can-do attitude, open-mind and passionate in coaching and developing staff.
Well-developed inter-personal and presentation skills, a good team player who enjoys working in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural development teams.
Experience in field development planning, scenario planning, volumetrics, and risk and uncertainty assessment is required.
Experience in integrated field studies and reservoir modeling studies with other Petroleum Engineering disciplines is required.
Experience in WRFM roles, track record of opportunity identification and solid delivery.
Skilled in well planning and operations.
Knowledge of deepwater depositional systems and turbidite reservoir characterization and fault compartmentalization.
Stakeholder Management include Wells, Partners, Regulatory, Subsea, WRFM and Operations teams.
Working in an integrated team environment is crucial as the integrated team contains geophysicists, petrophysicists, production geologists, reservoir engineers, production technologists, drilling engineers, completion engineers, economists and finance reps.
