QEP Resources is seeking a Senior Geophysicist to support Company asset teams in its corporate division in Denver. The Senior Geophysicist will be responsible for interpreting/mapping 2D and 3D seismic data and supervising seismic reprocessing, new seismic acquisition, and micro-seismic acquisition & processing. Additional skills are desired to provide geophysical mentoring of less experienced staff. The work is to culminate in support for selection of drilling locations that meet economic requirements, and working to reduce drilling time, optimize landing zones and completions. This position is assigned to work with a multi-disciplined team which includes specialists in geoscience, engineering and land.
Play development via regional subsurface mapping and detailed reservoir mapping
Providing geophysical support for existing QEP acreage positions throughout the all areas of company operations
Integrate structural framework, geological, and petrophysical data into geophysical subsurface time and depth map interpretations
Provide critical geophysical support for an active drilling program, such as providing detailed horizontal well directional plans, hazard identification, and significant facies or pressure variations.
Autonomously interpret and integrate 3D seismic data with wells and other available geological information for creation of reservoir properties incorporated into a geologic model used for reservoir characterization and field management.
Utilize advanced seismic techniques to determine reservoir or field development uncertainties, reservoir distribution, quality and fluid content, and hydrocarbon phase. These techniques include but are not limited to, well log fluid substitution, AVO analysis and modeling, seismic attribute analysis, depth processing, polar and azimuthal anisotropy parameters evaluation and geostatistical pre-stack seismic inversion.
Evaluating outside generated prospects for potential acquisition
Working with/communicate effectively with an interdisciplinary team of geoscience, petrophysical, engineering and land staff.
Prepare and deliver presentations to senior level management.
Mentor junior geophysical staff on techniques, workflows and work management.
Minimum of an M.S. degree in geology or geophysics.
Minimum of 10 years of experience evaluating and generating economic hydrocarbon prospects
Unconventional experience in oil or tight gas formations is required. High level of Permian Basin experience is preferred.
Experience and familiarity with economic modeling and risk analysis.
Must be able to integrate well log to seismic ties to support interpretation.
Must be skilled at seismic data QC and supervise data loading.
Strong mapping skills using geoscience computer applications including Kingdom SMT, Geographix and Petrel.
Excellent communication skills.
Must be adaptable and flexible to changing business needs.
