Job profile summary:
The BP North Africa Exploration Team, based full-time in Cairo, is focused on exploration activities principally in the offshore Nile Delta. There is an immediate opening for a senior exploration geoscientist to provide an integrated technical leadership role within the region. The successful candidate will undertake expert evaluations of acreage and prospects, ensuring application of the appropriate seismic technologies, new advanced workflows and help refresh the prospect inventory. This position requires a strong background in subsurface integration of geophysical and geological interpretation techniques together with good appreciation of the requirements and detailed working practices of both exploration and reservoir development functions. In addition to strong technical skills, the role demands excellent awareness of the broader business environment and will require the individual to frequently act as BP’s representative on external engagements such as with Regulator EGAS, Ministry of Petroleum and with Partners. The position reports to the local southwest exploration team Exploration Manager.

The successful candidate will undertake expert evaluations of acreage and prospects, ensuring application of the appropriate seismic technologies, new advanced workflows and help refresh the prospect inventory. If you join our team, you may have the following responsibilities:
Build an integrated subsurface description of the Nile Delta plays for future access in support of the Path to 2030
Build, maintain, and influence external stakeholders (National Oil Companies, partners, regulators, contractors)
Act as a facilitator and provide additional functional and specialist technical connections to the team, also work closely, present and gain alignment with partners and regulators
Lead the Nile Delta exploration agenda - including fit-for-purpose basin understanding, rebuild/ refresh of the prospect inventory, prospect description and ranking, evaluation and application of appropriate predictive seismic technologies.
Build and maintain relationships through technical integration across the North Africa Exploration and ResDev teams
Lead bid rounds and farm-in/out activities
Support the southwest Nile Delta Exploration Manager (and through to the Exploration Director) with planning activities and delivery of required documentation – for example work programmes, budgets and appropriate internal and external approvals.
Provide high quality technical leadership and coaching
Contribute to ensuring a safe office environment
In this role, we have the following requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Geoscience discipline
Specific corporate experience as representative with external stakeholders (National Oil Companies, partners, regulators, contractors)
20 years of experience in integration of exploration geophysics and geology
Demonstrate good broad business acumen and impact beyond their own technical sphere
Able to coach others, seek feedback and takes ownership of own development
Self-sufficient in dealing with complexity and escalates by exception
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic
Experience in actively promoting a positive work environment and an ability to work across different cultures.
