Description

Reporting
to the Manager, Geoscience, the Senior Geomodeller is responsible for creating and
managing the 3D geological models of our thermal reservoirs for the purpose of
planning and supporting SAGD production.

This
position is based in the Calgary Head Office.

Responsibilities

Integrate a wide variety of geological, petrophysical, engineering and seismic data for use in building and validating geocellular models in Petrel and then iterate with asset team members to ensure all subsurface understanding is accurately represented in the model;


Utilize geologic
methods to create and manage comprehensive 3D geomodels

Use of geostatistical
methods such as variography, micromodeling, and multiple point statistics to
characterize uncertainty at unsampled locations and to convey geological risks
to the team and management;

Use existing Petrel workflows
and develop new workflows to accelerate and automate recurring requests;

Provide geological
input to recoverable resources/reserves estimates using appropriate SAGD
criteria;

Provide Reservoir Engineering
with appropriately up-scaled geocellular models to perform detailed simulations
and work with engineering and geoscience teams to validate results;

Develop an integrated
understanding of reservoir heterogeneities related to bitumen production by
gaining a strong understanding of available core data and integration of core
images and all open hole log data;

Provide technical
support and recommendations with horizontal well planning; and

Assessing and integrating
new geological information into geological models and maps;

Participate with
multi-discipline teams to provide resource characterization that can be used in
mineral land strategy, land retention prioritization, Long range planning, and
other asset planning activities; and


Keeping abreast of new Oilsands
knowledge and performance of existing thermal projects.

Qualifications


Undergraduate degree in
Geosciences with a Master’s degree an asset

APEGA member preferred

10+ years of progressive
skill development in creating and applying geomodeling techniques to developing
SAGD projects in the Athabasca Oilsands region

Practical experience
with 3D thermal reservoir modeling techniques, including a high level of
expertise using Petrel software

Experience in the
interpretation, integration and application of geophysical data in constructing
geological models

Experience with
horizontal well planning and operations support is desirable

Strong analytical,
critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and
attention to detail

Capacity to execute
projects independently and efficiently using strong written and oral
communication skills

Enthusiastic with strong
interpersonal skills, ability to grow and maintain positive relationships and work
well with diverse personalities in a multidisciplinary work force

Able to manage multiple
priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable
activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business
environment

Proactive,
forward-looking and able to identify and solicit necessary support from
colleagues in a timely manner and provide colleagues and management with
support upon short notice.
