The Senior Geologist at Statoil Gulf Services in Houston, TX will perform prospect evaluations in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico in order to assist with well planning and execution for the Exploration USA business unit.
Specific duties of the position include:
perform real-time well operations monitoring and updates of seismic interpretation, velocity model, and geological prognosis based on results from the well during drilling;
Integrate observations from Drilling Engineers, Operations Geologist, Sedimentologist, Geochemist, Petrophycisist and Paleontologist to provide a holistic subsurface evaluation along with success and failure volume estimation to the Exploration Manager;
Participate in daily drilling meetings and partner meetings;
And prepare and conduct data rooms to market and farm down drill-ready opportunities in the EXP USA Statoil portfolio.
Master's degree in Geology, Geophysical Engineering, or a related field, plus two years of work experience as a geophysicist in the oil and gas industry.
The experience must include at least two years of experience with each of the following:
(1) Deep-water Gulf of Mexico, including Neogene and Paleogene plays; subsalt seismic interpretation, seismic-to-well ties, attribute extraction and interpretation, and well correlations;
(2) Salt tectonics and seismic imaging techniques in complex sub-salt settings; salt and velocity modeling;
(3) Reservoir and economical prospect evaluation, prospect volume and risk assessment, success/failure analysis of drilled prospects, and contribution to reservoir engineering and valuation;
(4) Regional and prospect level experience in the Gulf of Mexico, including regional seismic interpretation, play evaluation, and prospect identification and ranking;
And (5) Petrel, ArcGIS, and GEOX software.
