The Opportunity

We are looking for a talented Geologist to undertake the technical analysis of exploration and development projects and opportunities to make effective and informed recommendations to Beach Management.

The role of Senior Geologist is part of the Exploration and Appraisal department and reports to the Manager Exploration and Appraisal - Western Flank Oil with responsibility for:

Providing analysis of geological information associated with exploration and appraisal prospects and play types.
Integrate geological evaluations as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure all data is considered when making recommendations.
Building collaborative relationships with joint venture partners.
Mentoring junior members of the geoscience team, ensuring that they broaden and develop an appropriate skill set.
Help create seriatim of prospects and leads to assess the potential of acreage or to prioritise drilling portfolio candidates.
Undertaking geological evaluations of existing fields to contribute to planning the optimised development of Beach’s production assets.
Provide reserves estimates for existing fields and exploration prospects utilising probabilistic methods and deterministic scenarios to optimise the allocation of budgeted funds.
Preparing well proposals and monitoring the drilling of wells to ensure stakeholders have a clearly communicated well plan.
Evaluating gazettal and new venture opportunities, as required, ensuring appropriate opportunities are recommended to enhance Beach’s portfolio.
Evaluating prospects and leads supplied by the Operator for areas where Beach is non-operator.
Aiding in the evaluation of field development plans submitted by the Operator for fields where Beach is a non-operating joint venture partner.
Participation in presentations to peer-review groups and joint venture parties, as required, to assess potential of acreage, plan exploration programs and review drilling results.
Proactively contribute to the continuous capture and management of all subsurface and associated data, including historical data, to maximise availability & value for analysis.
Ensure data standards and flows are developed and maintained such that they are evergreen.
Assist with other tasks reasonably required by Beach management as required.
Essential selection criteria
Tertiary qualification in Geology.
Extensive experience in the petroleum industry.
Extensive and broad knowledge of exploration and development geoscience.
Well-developed knowledge and understanding of wireline log interpretation.
Understanding of petroleum economics.
Basic knowledge of reservoir engineering to aid multidisciplinary communication.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
Demonstrable ability to prioritise work and meet demanding schedules.
Proficient in MS Office.
Desirable selection criteria
Previous experience in onshore Australian sedimentary basins.
Experience in planning horizontal well development.
Working knowledge of geosteering project planning and execution.
Knowledge of a range of reservoir types, plays and depositional systems.
