Calgary, ABVermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Geologist. Reporting to the Team Lead, Workman, the Senior. Geologist will oversee the development and exploration activities within the Workman Team of SE Saskatchewan. The successful candidate will work closely with team members to successfully execute on annual budget commitments through the identification, planning, and execution of drilling prospects within the core area. The focus will be on maximizing the value of the existing prospect inventory, while generating new prospects within Vermilion’s current land position and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
Draw on broad experience of the various plays in SE Saskatchewan, including Midale, Frobisher and Bakken/Torquay Formations/Beds
Generating and executing on drilling prospects required to meet team budgetary commitments including prospect identification, well planning, and execution of each identified location, through to completion
Monitor competitor activity in adjacent lands, including; new well licenses, well results, and land postings
Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary (GG&E;) team to identify, evaluate and bring forth recommendations for opportunities to grow drilling inventory (i.e. M&A;, land sales, swaps, farm-ins)
Demonstrate proficient knowledge of logging, testing, completion and production concepts as pertaining to prospect generation
Work within multi-functional team to evaluate plays based on an understanding of their key technical and business parameters and make recommendations
Provide documentation with appropriate maps, cross-sections, reports and other pertinent technical data
Provide adequate and complete background data for all maps, including assumptions, cutoffs, reservoir parameters, data sources and other pertinent information when appropriate
Other duties as assigned

Essential Experience & Skills
Minimum of 10+ years of relevant oil and gas industry experience is required
Ability to work in a fast paced environment while balancing program execution and prospect generation
High level of proficiency in industry standard software applications such as Geoscout, Petra, MS Excel, PowerPoint
Strong data management skill with the ability to analyze multiple well attributes over large geographic areas
Good understanding of wireline logging principles and practices, core recovery and analyses, and core-log integration work
Good interpersonal communication skills, capable of presenting ideas to others in both formal and informal settings
Possess the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
Possess the ability to think creatively with ‘outside-the-box’ thinking and can create ideas and ultimately value that others may have missed

Education & Work Experience
University Degree in Geology and a member of APEGA is required
