Would you like to support robust operations and the long-term depletion strategy for the MacKay River steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) asset? You will reciprocally work with geoscientists and engineers to provide analyses that support ongoing operations, business stewardship and evaluating investments. You will also support the optimization of an operating asset and progressing investments for sustainment and growth opportunities in order to improve Suncor’s value through enhanced oil recovery mechanisms and new technologies.
You will use your expertise to:
Provide geological guidance and support for optimizing immediate and long-term reservoir performance from current operations
Lead and manage the geological part of horizontal drilling and vertical evaluation programs
Support and oversee the development and implementation of new technology pilots
Conduct detailed geological interpretation and integrate with 3D/4D seismic
Provide geological content for regulatory applications
Participate in major property reviews and development of annual budgets
Give guidance to improve technical processes
Support staff training and mentoring of junior staff
We’d like to review your application if you have…
Must-haves (minimum requirements):
Seven years’ experience in oil and gas and/or oil sand mining
A Bachelor’s degree in Geology
Registration (or eligibility for) as a professional geologist through APEGA
Prior thermal in situ development experience (at least four years)
The ability to integrate geological interpretations with geophysical data
The strong ability to lead projects and collaborate to achieve results and deliver value in a well-integrated multi-functional team environment

Experience in shallow SAGD and caprock integrity evaluation including core and fracture analysis, mini frac and geomechanics
Familiar with the software platform Petrel
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:
You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
Extended hours may be required as needed
