Encana's exploration team has an exciting opportunity for an individual to aid in the assessment of emerging and undiscovered plays across North America. We seek a senior geologist to assist with reservoir characterization, data analysis, prospect generation and mentoring in support of exploration and play assessment. We are seeking an adaptive scientist with multidisciplinary skill sets who:
has both operational and reservoir characterization experience
has a strong mapping background
has strong knowledge of sequence stratigraphy and depositional models
embraces developing digital technology
is fluent (or can rapidly develop fluency) in Petrel and
is comfortable integrating large data sets.
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of working in a collaborative team environment where excellence, resiliency and self-management are critical skill sets. They will be expected to influence the transition to the portfolio of the future by analyzing market trends, tracking competitor data/performance and developing opportunities. The primary expectations for this position are multi-fold:
developing regional play assessments
assimilating and integrating data
developing and interpreting regional hydrocarbon system trends and
identifying and assessing potential prospects.
Learn and interpret the broad range of geologic and thermogenic settings across North America.
Incorporate ongoing learnings from reservoir characterization observations into emerging basin trends.
Monitor competitor activity, integrate relevant elements into ongoing assessments.
Provide input for planning, land capture and economic evaluations.
Generate prospects and evaluate opportunities in multiple basins and geologic settings.
Apply knowledge and expertise to reservoir characterization and well performance projections.
Work within a multi-disciplinary team structure and successfully interact with reservoir characterization, mineral land and operating teams to maximize value of existing lands.
Actively engage in peer reviews to assess and convey risk and upside.
Degree in Geology (advanced degree is a plus).
>8 years industry experience.
Preferably knowledgeable in both WCSB and US basins.
Background in horizontal drilling and development planning.
Basin mapping and play assessment workflow experience.
Strong regional interpretation skills and a good understanding of shale analysis methods.
Good understanding of structural geology, stratigraphic interpretation, natural fracture systems, sedimentology and petrophysics.
Strong computer mapping/modeling skills with proficiency using multiple geologic platforms; such as Petrel, Kingdom, Petra, Geographix, etc.
Grounded in the statistical relevance of data – data science fundamentals and advanced statistical knowledge are a plus.
Strong track record of results, taking initiative and showing leadership.
Strong communication, presentation, writing and organization skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and advance multiple projects concurrently.
Currently eligible or able to obtain clearance to work in the United States.
Currently eligible or able to obtain clearance to work in Canada.
