Description

Koch Oil Sands Operating ULC (KOSO), a Canadian Oil & Gas exploration company, is looking for a Senior Geologist to join our team in Calgary. KOSO has an extensive asset portfolio focused on Oil Sands and Heavy Oil, and is evaluating new growth opportunities. Key activity areas for this role include exploration drilling, seismic integration, detailed technical and economic evaluations, field pilot planning and execution, project applications and horizontal well development activities. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

Prepare advanced level geological interpretations of KOSO’s existing properties in the Peace River area, Athabasca and Cold Lake Oil Sands areas

Originate new opportunities and play concepts

Assist with property acquisition and divestiture efforts

Prepare well prognoses and regulatory submittals

Contribute to detailed economic evaluations of existing assets and acquisition opportunities

Geological mentorship of less experienced staff members

Requirements

BSC in Geology

Capable of APEGA certification (4 years’ experience + APEGA education prerequisites)

10 years’ experience in oil & gas industry (min 5 years’ oils sands or heavy oil)

5-10 years’ work experience in clastic depositional environments

Excellent operational knowledge and experience working closely with drilling, construction and operations

5+ years applying business and analytical skills and a proven ability to connect geological interpretations to economic evaluations

Knowledge of conventional heavy oil and thermal production economic drivers

Experience with GeoSCOUT or Accumap

Knowledge of Ichnology and depositional environment mapping through core/logs

Preferred

BSC in Geology, plus MBA or business experience

APEGA certified

15 years’ experience in oil & gas industry (10 years in oil sands or heavy oil)

Strong clastic depositional knowledge of the Manville Group in the WCSB.

Wabiskaw & McMurray

Lloydminster section (Colony, Waseca, Sparky, GP, Rex etc.)

Bluesky & Gething

Experience overseeing multi-well drilling programs in conventional or thermal heavy oil deposits

Experience overseeing horizontal drilling programs (planning and execution)

GeoSCOUT power user

Excellent ability to integrate all disciplines to create sound geological mapping

Understanding of risk and risk analysis to determine economic viability of a concept or play

Excellent business and analytical skills and a proven ability to connect geological interpretations to economic evaluations, with 5-10 years of experience applying economic decision making skills

Physical Requirements:
Basic office work involving computer work and meetings
