Repsol, one of the world’s leading integrated oil and gas companies, spans the entire energy value chain including exploration, production, refining, marketing and new energy R&D.
Repsol’s corporate headquarters are located in Madrid, Spain. Its U.S. headquarters are in Houston, Texas. Repsol operates in more than 30 countries with 25,000 employees worldwide.
In the U.S., Repsol has exploration and production operations in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, the North Slope of Alaska, Kansas and Oklahoma. In Canada, our E&P assets are located offshore Newfoundland and Labrador. North America is a strategic growth area for Repsol. Over the past few years, Repsol has expanded exponentially with strong projections for continued growth.
Repsol seeks a Senior Exploration Geologist (SEG) to work as part of the Alaska North Slope Exploration Team and evaluate new opportunities in onshore Alaska. The ideal applicant should have proficiency in the analysis and integration of multiple types of subsurface data (i.e., well log, well test, 2D and 3D seismic, biostratigraphy, core, geochemical) to undertake regional or basin scale evaluations of plays, generate new play concepts, help mature existing prospects to “drill-ready” status, and drive future appraisal activity.
The SEG will be primarily responsible to:
Undertake regional exploration mapping and play evaluation.
Assist in defining and maturing prospects, identify critical risk factors, and quantify resource potential.
Synthesize and integrate varied subsurface data to contribute toward understanding of key play and prospect components (e.g., source, migration, reservoir, trap, seal).
Provide reservoir inputs for static modelling.
Interpret sequence stratigraphic and environmental architecture from seismic, well-logs, biostratigraphy, and core.
Build well correlation sections.
Prepare and present work for Repsol internal review processes including Exploration Quality Assurance and Exploration Resource Control.
Prepare well proposal and well post-mortem documents following Repsol standards.
Mentor less experienced team members.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary exploration team and with engineering counterparts in the Business Unit.
In order to perform the accountabilities of this position, candidates must be able to demonstrate:
The legal authorization to work in the US.
An MS or PhD degree in Geology and a minimum of 10 years of experience in exploration.
Experience with basin scale exploration studies and play evaluations.
Experience in prospect maturation, risking, and volumetric assessment.
Knowledge of sequence stratigraphic interpretation methods from well log, seismic, biostratigraphy, and core data sets.
Experience working within fluvial, wave-dominated, and shelf-edge deltaic systems, and an understanding of how the architecture of these systems is expressed in seismic and well log data.
The ability to solve problems creatively and work under limited supervision.
The willingness and ability to support the development of less experienced team members.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills, with specific ability to synthesize complex information in an organized manner.
Proficiency in Paradigm, Petrel, Geoframe, Excel, Spotfire, Powerpoint or equivalent interpretation software.
Other Qualifications: In addition to the above requirement candidates may be able to demonstrate:
Fluency in Spanish
