Job Description/Major Duties (general job functions, responsibilities, day-to-day tasks & activities)
The Senior Exploration Geologist will be engaged in play generation and prospect evaluation, and mentor/coach exploration staff through the technical due diligence and approval processes. A clear focus on finding and developing reserves is essential. Also, will work as a team player with other disciplines to develop new drilling opportunities.
The Senior Exploration Geologist responsibilities include but not limited to:
Screen, evaluate and recommend participation in external generated opportunities that complement the exploration focus.
Provide regional geological and geophysical interpretation and evaluations.
Provide concept, play and prospect identification, generation and evaluation.
Prospect: maturation, approvals, proposing, drilling, and post drilling evaluations.
Track record of exposure to different exploration basins, concepts, plays and prospect (ie Strat traps, unconventional plays).
Track record in reserve estimation and prospect risk analysis.
Mentor & coach the junior exploration staff.
Requirements (Education required, background, experience, skills)
Bachelor or Master Degree in Geology.
Minimum of 15 years’ experience in petroleum industry including minimum of 10 years’ experience in Exploration Geology.
Capable of generating exploration concepts, plays and prospects, and of leading the effort to get prospects evaluated, approved and drilled with supervision.
Demonstrable workstation experience (Petrel, seismic interpretation, well correlation etc.)
Proficient in application of sequence stratigraphy.
Experience working the Oman Stratigraphy.
